So, I am ridiculously pleased with myself for having made DS a birthday cake for tomorrow, but being a total cake novice I'm not sure about storage?

I didn't bake it myself, as such, as it's a 'no-bake' cake using premade cakes to form a train (inspired by that bloody Annabel K woman, but creativity entirely my own ) but I did make my own buttercream, which is the bit I'm not sure about.

Basically it's a load of chopped up loaf cakes completely covered in buttercream icing and topped with sweets/biscuits etc - do I need to refrigerate or can I just loosely cover in tin foil and leave it out?

well my first thought was store in your tummy arf

yy cover loosely in foil and refrigerate

boys/dogs I have stored rather a lot of the sweetie toppings in my tummy already (just to be sure the flavours worked together )

Right...now off to make a very large space in the fridge and hope the bloody tray that it's displayed on will fit...

or if you have an unheated garage or something would be OK in there. We have snow, its cold.

Thanks taffeta, have disassembled and put in the fridge - will just need to reassemble before guests arrive tomorrow - presumably it'll be OK left out for an hour or so before it's eaten tomorrow?

I'd get it out a few hours before as I don't like refrigerated cake.
