Persuading dd not to cram so much food in?

DD is 14 months, eats just about everything quite happily, and is starting to try feeding herself with a spoon. BLW and is pretty good at hand feeding as well, but she does try and shove everything into her mouth at once. I've ended up having to keep two plates at the table for her and add only a little bit at a time, as otherwise it really does all go in and there's no space to chew anything properly. It's pretty grim to watch and I do worry that she'll choke from too much. It also means that we have to eat our own food indecently fast as she eyes up ours and tries to nick it if she's had all of her own - and she can get through a lot...

Any ideas for how to persuade her to eat a bit more carefully? The BLW book was all about not worrying if they don't actually eat anything but we've got the opposite problem!

Hoe about just putting a few mouthfuls in front of her at a time? or giving her food that takes a bit longer to chew?

I had this problem with ds3 and he still tries to stuff too much in at times. He has almost choked before by putting too much in and it did teach him not to do it...for the duration of that particular meal anyway
I did what overmydeadbody suggested and would cut things into smaller chunks so he couldn't put too big a mouthful in at one time. Now I just give him a long hard look and say "That's too much for one mouthful, that's too much for your mouth, that's too much" as he folds his sandwich into his cakehole or tried to stuff in a whole slice of maltloaf

I do cut things up small but she's now perfected, instead of a pincer grip, a sort of sweeping grab-several-bits-at-once clasping motion. Will just carry on with a few bits at a time and see if she gradually gets more patient! You'd think she was never going to see food again...!
