Can I ask what casserole pot you have and how well it works? Do yours start leaking more after years of use?

I had a Le Creuset big casserole dish but someone dropped the lid and it cracked. I then got a Jamie Oliver Tefal pot (think from JL) which wasn't half as expensive and was brilliant for a number of years...

however, I have noticed recently that the casseroles are reducing far quicker than they ever did. I'd expect some thickening but literally, after an hour at 180C, most of the liquid in the pot is evaporating. Is this a sign we need a new pot (I imagine the lid just isn't fitting as well as it used to)?

what ones would you recommend?

I have Le Cresuet too and still fine, a freind recently gave me a Nigella Lawson one as a gift and I am totally hooked on it, far better then the Le Cresuet ones.

I have a ten year old Le Creuset and it's still going strong. Want a bigger one but I can't afford it

We have a le cresuet one too, it was passed on from my mum when i moved out so has had many, many years of use and is still really good.

Interesting re: nigella, 5gomad, pls can you link??
the fecking screw on the knob of the lid of our heavy le creuset is dodgy and so often you go to lift the lid and it bangs down.

oh that's annoying champagne

yes I'd like to see the nigella one. I just googled but only got something that looked like a witch's pot.

I have an enamel le crueset - dp bought it on ebay for a fraction of the cost new, and it was in perfect condition

I have got an ancient (70s?) one which is white glass with red tuplips on and cost me about 20p from my local tip shop. It works fine and at that price can afford to replace if it ever starts underperforming

That's it, the witches pot, was dubious at first but great on the hob, we have gas, and in the oven. www.gadgethub.co.uk/nigella_lawson_large_casserole_dish-p32609.html

I put foil over the top and then put the lid on as well

foxinsocks · 06/02/2010 20:35

ah that's a good tip mrsb, didn't think of that

lol at the witchy pot, how big is it? can't really get a feel from there (but will look in shops tomorrow)

I see le creuset have a special on at JL - if you buy the purple one you get 3 mini pots free (though they look really mini and I'm not sure how much you could do with only 3 )

dh has just sheepishly admitted that he dropped the pot and 'a bit came off' which might explain the fluid disappearing!

I have my mum's big Le Creuset one as she doesn't do big parties any more. She looked after it lovingly for 30 odd years, I'd had it 6 months and dropped the lid on a concrete floor. Big crack all over but still works fine.

Just doesn't look that good. And its orange.

Lust after the white one.
