Raclette cheese - where to buy?

would like to buy raclette grill (separate thread asking about models). However, I can't find the cheese in any of our local supermarkets so no point in investing in a grill I can't use. Is it a seasonal thing? Otherwise, where can I get it? I believe Costco does it but not going to renew my membership just to buy cheese! Have tried M&S, Tesco, Sainsbury, Aldi..... Or, anyone used any other cheeses which melt in the same way? Thanks.

Waitrose. I've seen it in there.

And you can't be too far from Didsbury!

Sainsburys sell it and I've found it in local delis. Love raclette. In fact I think I will have to get some at the weekend now I've read this thread!

AuntieMaggie · 02/02/2010 16:22

works equally as well with other cheeses - trust me

thanks all, there's a Waitrose a couple of miles away so will check it out. Our Sainsbury's doesn't stock it. Lilymaid, not too far from Didsbury and will definitely visit that shop, sounds fantastic. AuntieMaggie, which other cheeses work best?
Am very keen to buy one - easy entertaining/family supper, but DH reckons it'll be a white elephant!!

We tend to use gouda or gruyere.

Lubyloo · 02/02/2010 16:40

It's a fab family/friends dinner.

I'm not sure which branch of Sainsburys you've tried but Sainsburys in Hazel Grove always used to stock it. Mind you I haven't looked for it in there for several months so they may have stopped doing it.

We don't use ours a lot but when we have the girls' friends coming round for parties etc, it always goes down a storm and feels like an 'event' especially when followed by chocolate fondue!

Of course, it's all done in the best possible retro-ironic taste.

Can definitely recommend The Cheese Hamlet in Didsbury - only problem is I end up buying more cheese than I intended to as it all looks so yummy! My MIL is Swiss and we had a raclette set for a wedding present. It's not used alot but I love it when we get it out. Might have to have one this weekend after reading this post...

Just buy the cheese slices, edam, yarlsburg etc.
