Topping ideas for waffles please

DS1 (4) is a reluctant breakfast-eater. I thought he might like waffles but don't really want to smother them with syrup and I can't think of much else to put on them (apart from my own personal favourite and guilty secret of chopped fruit and squirty cream).

What do you put on yours?

Butter, maple syrup and bacon.

I have an ancient sputnik-style electric waffle-maker I inherited from an aged aunt.

It makes fabulous waffles.

honey and yoghurt

chocolate spread

vanilla ice cream and toffee sauce. But maybe not for breakfast....

Thanks for your suggestions but when I put some on to toast this morning DS gagged and ran from the kitchen declaring the smell "disgusting"! Admittedly ready-made ones aren't a patch on homemade but still... So looks like they're all mine.

Maybe he would like those little scotch pancakes? dd used to like those plain.

TheHouseofMirth · 01/02/2010 09:16

'fraid not! He'll only eat dry Rice Krispies, the white bit of a boiled egg or tuna sandwiches. It's only breakfast where it's tricky but now he's at school it seems more important.

If he eats normal food, you could do what my mum always did for me and my sister. Make extra for dinner and give us last night's dinner for breakfast. Kept us happy at breakfast time for years. My mum always thought it a bit odd, but it got food down us and was probably healthier than sugary cereals anyway.

tricky - some people just arent breakfast people. Does he like smoothies? or perhaps theres a breakfast club at school he could join?

happysmiley - that is brilliant. I am always trying to think of new solutions but it just shows you that you don't always need to.
