What cereals etc do you feed your dc? (looking for inspiration for my toddler)

DD has either porridge or shreddies but I feel she is becoming bored by them.

What other healthy options do you feed your children?

OP posts:

Porridge or Readybrek (depends how much time I've got)
Weetabix
Shreddies
Mini Shredded Wheat
Rice Krispies
Cheerios
Croissants/brioche/banana loaf (for a treat)

mollymawk · 22/01/2010 23:43

For breakfast mine like:

Bran Flakes
Special K
Shreddies
Mini Shredded Wheat
Rice Krispies
Millet Rice (I like this one too!)
[often one bowl with all the above mixed up, yuk]
Toast
Eggs
Leftover pasta from the night before
Leftover rice from the night before
Fromage frais

We had freshly baked blueberry muffins this morning. >

Lionstar · 23/01/2010 09:09

Mostly:
Porridge with apple sauce or mashed banana or blueberries

Sometimes:
Weetabix
Sainsbo's rice crispies or raisin wheats or Balance cereal (bit like special K)
Toast & honey or marmite
Yoghurt and chopped fruit and a sprinkling of that crunchy cereal stuff

Occasionally:
Crumpets
Croissants
Bagels

thisisyesterday nonononono - i'm gutted! i bought the sainsbury's ones without checking.... bugger. nestle really do have claws in every pie, don't they?!

in response to the OP - dd likes puffed wheat, shreddie-type things, mini weetabix etc. and loves museli if she is on my lap and i'm eating it. hands in bowl, the lot! we do porridge too.

i know it's not cereal, but if you are looking for breakfast inspiration generally, i often hard-poach her an egg-yolk; she loves them!

fonduechinoise · 23/01/2010 15:24

my DD likes:

porridge
choco crispies
rice crispies (plain or choco)
weetabix
brioche with butter
butter on toast
homemade granola - AK recipe ; absolutely delish and i add some tropical dried fruits to it - it never last long in our house, even dh loves it late at night when he has the munchies LOL. either with milk or yogurt.

for dd i also buy the fruit shots sometimes.

thisisyesterday · 23/01/2010 15:44

catastrobj- me too! i had been buying the sainsburys ones for ages without knowing.

misshardbroom · 24/01/2010 08:52

Shreddies, cheerios, weetabix, granola.

Toast, bread & honey, bagels, crumpets, muffins.

Fromage frais / yogurt, fresh fruit or raisins.

Bacon butties when camping.

DS1's favourite breakfast in the whole world (eaten on Christmas Day & his birthday) is croissants and smoked salmon!

Pancakes if I'm trying to disguise my inadequacy at having forgotten to put on the breadmaker.

I've never bought things in the Coco Pops / Frosties / Ricicles line.... suspected it might be the thin end of the wedge.

StealthPolarBear · 24/01/2010 08:59

Kellog's raisin wheats
weetabix
porrige
bran flakes
crunchy nut cornflakes (in my defence a thin layer on top of bran flakes)
toast/crumpet

StealthPolarBear · 24/01/2010 09:05

The Kellogg's there wasn't name dropping but I have tried the own brand equivalents and they are not nice!
Also, do not buy "Frosted Wheats" - I had a look at them thinking they might just be a little bit naughty - they contain BEEF FAT

littlebylittle · 24/01/2010 22:11

weetabix, almost every morning. otherwise porridge

imoscarsmum · 25/01/2010 13:12

Plum brand does great porridge and museli in 2 flavours. DD (16m) loves them and they are full of quinoa and have no sugar added at all. we add pomegranate seeds or blueberries as she's a fruit monster!

Occasionally for variety we'll have oatibix (not bitesize as they have more added sugar) porridge oats with a bit of maple syrup, bagels, toast, teacakes, boiled egg etc etc.

I am wary of most cereals as they have added sugar and salt, so IMO, not appropriate for every day.
Tesco, Boots & Sainsburys sell the Plum brand.

imoscarsmum · 25/01/2010 13:13

Or for brekkie on the go - make your own savoury cheese muffins. great for early starts & car journeys.

TulipsInTheRain · 25/01/2010 13:15

porrige, supermarket own brand rice krispies and crunchy nut cornflakes, lidl oat cereal, oatabix

the baby also has special k and weetabix minis but dd can't have these (wheat intolerant) and i try and keep ds1 to her diet so she doesn't feel as left out

Egg · 25/01/2010 13:20

Shreddies
Weetabix
Rice Krispies
Crunchy Bran
Special K
Multigrain Shapes

Also

Beans on Toast
Marmite / Peanut Butter on Toast
Buttered Crumpet

MrsJohnDeere · 25/01/2010 13:30

Shreddies (most popular)
Weetabix
Oatibix
Cornflakes
Rice Crispies
Cheerios occasionally (less popular)

BornToFolk · 25/01/2010 13:46

Ready Brek (Tesco's own) mostly though DS does love "Daddy's cereal" which is Fruit and Fibre but he's not allowed to have that every day. This morning he had Ready Brek with a sprinkling of F&F on top.

He's also quite keen on muesli sometimes. We went through a phase of having muesli that had been soaked overnight in milk but he went off that...

I do the Jamie Oliver pancakes for breakfast sometimes - 1 cup self raising flour, 1 cup milk, 1 egg, some fruit, but that's more for my benefit than DS's! I love them, he's not so fussed.

kif · 25/01/2010 13:51

weekdays is always porridge - but we sometimes go to town on toppings.

Standard is jam/honey.

Alternatives:

blueberries and honey
marmalade and pecans
banana honey
coco pops (yes, coco pops on top of porridge )
chocolate (Which i don;t like, but dh and DC do)
cinoman brown sugar and apple (cooked in with it)

debka · 25/01/2010 13:52

my 10 month old LOVES sainsbury's raisin mini wheats
