Hello everyone, hope you all are well.

I'm really hope you all can help me?

I'm having a dinner party very soon (2-3 weeks) and I know what I am serving food wise. But in terms of desserts I would like to make 3 or 4 different cakes and I am very stuck for ideas of what to bake.

So if anyone has any recipes that could help me out, I would really appreciate it

Thank you in advance Ladies x

that's a lot of baking, will you really have time to bake them all on the day?

Try a Pear and Ginger cake

or a chocolate prune cake with armagnac

or a cherry almond cake

These will be lovely served with sweetened whipped double cream. Have a look for some recipes for these online.

Post again if you need more help.

make a pavlova with raspberries or strawberries

and somethgin chocolaty like chocolate mousse cake

why four cakes though? Why not just one or two really nice ones and something lighter like fruit?

ginger and lemon cheesecake

Ottolenghi apple cake with maple cream cheese frosting is enough cake for anybody and utterly fantastic.

This is an unusual but great one:
Courgette and double ginger cake.

Plum crumble pie is good as well.

This is not the most straightforward recipe ever, but is really delicious and different. Also it's gluten free (and you could make it dairy free by leaving out the 25g butter) so might be useful to have if catering for special diets.

upahill....just amde a courgette cake this week. Everyone turned their noses up when i told them courgettes were in it. But it tasted fantastic and now its nearly all gone. There was a whole jar of honey, dates, almonds and cinnamon in it. It was yummy

Good Morning Ladies, hope you all are well.

After reading through all your ideas and advice, I'm thinking 3/4 cakes might be a lot to take on, so I am going to reduce it to 2, which I think I can handle

Does anyone have any recipes of your own that are tried and tested? I?m going to try and bake 1 or 2 this weekend, for some practice and a treat

I'm also going to have a look at the ones you have suggested to me.

Thank you so much x

Nigella's Guinness cake is good.

I would be inclined to do one chocolate cake and then one lighter, sharper tasting one eg: lemon cheesecake or a sponge with cream and raspberries.

misshardbroom · 26/01/2010 14:45

Nigella's chocolate cloud cake is easy and usually goes down well. I'd then do something like a tarte tatin and maybe an option of fresh raspberries and/or a good quality ice cream.
