Any clues? I've googled but can't really find a good explanation..it's for a soup recipe..

Just means peel it, I think.

Does it want you to use a bit oif the skin for flavour? If so you'll want to peel a strip of the outer skin but not include the white pithy bit.

it means scrape of think bits of the rind I think. Are you aiming to get the lemon to use, or the parings ? If the parings keep them thin and no pith, if the whole lemon then probably just peel it.

You want the yellow bit of the skin and not the pith (white bit...)

throckenholt · 21/01/2010 12:56

or even thin bits ...

Wow, thanks all!

It says pared rind of one lemon in the ingredients list and then says in the actual recipe "Add the stock and lemon strips to the pan, half cover the pan with its lid, and simmer gently for 20 mins".

So what's the best way to do it? Am I aiming to cut strips of the yellow bit and if so how? Potato peeler?

potato peeler would be fab.

Blackduck · 21/01/2010 13:03

yes, just don't get too much white (pith) as that will make it very sharp

ruhavingalarf · 21/01/2010 13:11

it just means strips of skin rather than grating. i wouldn't worry overly about the white bit, its much the same for flavouring ( unlike oranges where its quite bitter). i do it with a sharp knife.actually a paring knife would be good!! its not by any chance a carrot and fennel soup is it??

hattyyellow · 21/01/2010 14:24

Hee hee it's like guess the soup! Recipe is below, I will let you know how it turns out. I've followed the proportions of flavourings but it smells a little like curried carrots!

Thanks so much, have stripped my lemon and rather nervously put it in. It doesn't mention removing the lemon so I'm hoping people aren't still spitting bits out after it's been liquidised!
