slow cooker v casserole

What's the difference between using a slow cooker, and doing a casserole slowly in a low oven, please?
And if not much, would htere be anything to stop me doing slow cooker recipes in my oven in a large casserole? My oven has a timer, so would be very useful . . .

Hi there - I thought I would reply to this question as I have been debating this in my mind for sometime now.... My problem with a slow cooker is that you can't taste the sauce you kind of have to just stick it all in and hope for the best, where as with a casserole you can get the sauce right whilst it's on the hob and then stick it in the oven and reduce it down at the end if you need to. If you take the lid off a slow cooker half way through the taste, it takes loads longer before it's ready. I personally prefer to stick to my Le Creusset and pop it on a timer.

Has somebody bought you one or are you thinking of getting one?

No I haven't got one, it's just that everyone raves about them and I was wondering if it would be a good idea. I'm a CM and really don't get time to cook through the day most days! But still require to serve good home-cooked meals . . .
Any other thoughts?
Anyone?

Energy. A SC will use far less and be far cheaper to run than an oven.
