I need a new food processor, but don't know which to get - any suggestions? What do you like/dislike about yours? Thanks for your help

I'll be absolutely honest with you. Magimix.

My mother has one (20 yrs ago), my MIL has one (30 yrs ago) and we got one 15 years ago. All 3 are STILL going strong and seem to be somewhat indestructible. Yes you pay, but boy do they last and give you so many options - grating carrots, mincing meat, breadcrumbs, mixing for cakes, baby food, pulsing for making crumble so that you can start and stop and not let it turn to dough too quickly etc.

The one I'd go for is:

Hope that helps

If you can afford one, magimix.

If you cant, dont really think theres much difference between them. Ive got a russell hobbs one. Its ok.

TheChewyToffeeMum · 19/01/2010 09:03

Magimix here too.

My mum's lasted for 24 yrs of regular use.

Mine does have a crack in the bowl handle but that was due to me ignoring the instructions on maximum amounts of dough to knead.

Spares are fairly easy to get hold of even for older models.

I've got the one smallandkind linked to, but in silver. I bought it from Fraser, and it was reduced a bit.

It really is brilliant. I've knackered several cheaper ones (3 in the past 5 years). This seems to much more solid and works brilliantly.

I've ordered julienne discs (for french fries, carrot batons, etc), and I'm lusting after the potato ricer attachment for mine!

That looks like its unanimous then. My Mum swears by Magimix too - all those Mum's must be right . Thanks!

Potato ricer, potato ricer! I didn't know about that attachment! That surely means there's nothing it doesn't do?!

I'd say magimix too. I looked at lots of them a few years back and the only other one I considered was ?Kenwood. But I'm so happy with my magimix. I've got the 3100 one Smallandkind linked too (but less curvy due to being 7 years old!) Didn't think the bigger size was necessary, and the smaller one was just a bit too small.
I never use the midi bowl.

TediBersMorRad · 21/01/2010 10:40

Can someone link to the potato ricer attachment?

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 21/01/2010 11:14

I agree on the Magimix front but if you can't quite run to that then The Kenwood FP730 is not bad. Got it for Christmas and use it most days. It seems to do the job ok.

VinoEsmeralda · 21/01/2010 11:17

Another vote for the Magimix 3200

LadyPeterWimsey · 21/01/2010 11:21

I got the biggest Magimix 2nd-hand on ebay, hardly used and a good £50 cheaper than new. I do use it all the time.

ruhavingalarf · 21/01/2010 11:25

I have a Russell Hobbs one which is okay. I also have a Kenwood mini chopper which is brill for making pesto/curry pastes/smaller things.

happysmiley · 21/01/2010 13:17

I'll tell you what not to get.

DON'T get the Kitchenaid one. Expensive and I've had disasters with the attachments htat are mostly flimsey and plasticy and break very easily.

ruhavingalarf · 21/01/2010 13:19

I am so glad to hear that about KitchenAid. I have lusted after one for years.

nickelbabe · 21/01/2010 13:19

i would go for a kenwood chef and buy the shredder/slicer attachment.

that way, you've got much much more than a food processor and you can keep adding attachments according to your needs.

selby · 23/01/2010 01:43

I own the Kenwood Multipro model too and it's a great alternative if you don't want to spend over £150 on a food processor (we didn't - we prioritised on the Gaggia Classic instead!)

MikeStand · 23/01/2010 14:36

Magimix are rubbish. Bits of plastic chipped off mine - not handy in babyfood and after 3 years the motor packed up. My MIL had a diffrent model and the motor failed on hers as well. I bought a £30 cookworks one recently and it is better. If it breaks I can have five for the price of crap Magimix. I have a kenwood chef and it is built like a tank + a dualit stick blender. They cover most needs.
