how do I cook a duck?

The co-op, down my way, were selling ducks so cheaply this morning. Unfortunately, I've never cooked a duck, and don't know how to. Should I treat it like a chicken? To baste or not to baste, that is the question?
Any advice would be most appreciated.
I phoned my mum, and she had to revert to Delia's book and it sounded a bit too elabourate and expensive - ie morello cherries at this time of year! Please help!

shouldn't need to bast as ducks are very fatty and will lubricate itself. roast in a deep sided tin if you have one, helps minimise the fat spraying all over your oven, and on a rack if possible, just so it's not sat in the fat.

if you want to put anything with it, layer some slices of orange over the skin and tuck inside the chest cavity.

Follow the Delia recipe for cooking the duck - but choose your own sauce or gravy. I concoct a sauce out of orange juice, red wine, marmalade and orange segments.
