tea cup should do it.

It is the american system. Tea cup is about right, but as long as you use the same size cup for everything you should be ok. Any kitchen ware or hard ware shop will sell "cups" in sets of about 4 or 5 - from 1 cup down to about a quarter of a cup.

thanks. dont have time to buy the cups, need the cake for tomorrow.
I did try muffins last weekend with the cup measurement and they were awful!!
I am not good at baking, really need my exact measurements.
Does anyone have a fluffly choc cake recipe to share???

A cup is about 250ml.

Using the same size cup is fine but no good if the recipe also asks for a teaspoon of X or tablespoon of Y.

Watch out for pints in American recipes as well as a US pint is different to a UK imperial pint.

Find some recipes online from the UK so you can get the exact measurements, (just click the 'pages from the UK' button under the google bar it will make it easier)

TrillianAstra · 16/01/2010 18:14

A US pint is 16 fluid ounces, so just over 3/4 of a UK pint.

I was going to say the same Bertie, using the same size cup is fine until you start including ingredients that aren't in cups, like eggs.

(I have a set of cups and the one that says 1 cup has 250 ml written on it)

We sometimes convert recipes at work at this is what we use...

30g = 1oz
450g = 1lb
30ml = 1fl oz
550ml = 1pt
Cup butter = 240g / 8oz
Cup flour = 120g / 4oz
Cup sugar = 210g / 7oz
