Not home made, but Tesco do a ready meal chicken chow mein thing which is quite nice and cheaper than a takeaway.

Whenever I cook Chinese it tastes very different to a takeaway - still nice, but different.

I made this Sweet & Sour Pork last night and it was lovely - even tasted nice this lunchtime warmed up!

JohnnyTwoHats · 13/01/2010 19:23

here you go

Goober · 13/01/2010 19:27

Egg fried rice.

In the morning boil some long grain rice until just cooked, don't let the grains split, or it'll be no good.
Leave in the fridge all day.
Beat eggs and fry in hot oil, mixing all the time. When cooked add the cold rice and mucho soy sauce. Keep turning or it will stick.

Goober what oil do you use?

I use vegetable oil.

BertieBotts · 13/01/2010 21:44

If you want it to taste like a takeaway you probably need to add copious amounts of MSG

wukter · 13/01/2010 21:56

Get some toasted sesame oil, a little pricy a bottle but cheaper than takeaways. It's great on egg fried rice/noodley type dishes.

wukter · 13/01/2010 22:00

Sorry - to clarify - not to cook with, to drizzle.

BertieBotts · 14/01/2010 00:29

You can cook with it as well though, it smells gorgeous and gives the food a lovely flavour.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 14/01/2010 00:48

but it burns very quickly so only only add it to things towards the end.

LowLevelWhingeing · 14/01/2010 08:57

I recommend this steamed white fish with ginger and soy recipe. It's seriously gorgeous and very similar to what the Chinese restaurants around here do, either with sea bass or scallops but would be good with any fish. (It is accidentally very healthy too, but don't let that put you off)

Also, I've done this recipe several times - Stir fried beef with peppers and egg noodles. It is from Gordon Ramsay's cookalong series so it is very simple. The most complex bit is chopping and measuring the ingredients; the actual cooking is very easy.

yummmmm.....
