Left over bits of puff pastry - what can I do with them?

Fancy something sweet. If you could also advise me how long to keep in the oven and at what temp that would be great as this packet has been my first pack of puff pastry. TIA

Not sweet, but roll flat, spread with pesto and roll up. Slice thinly and bake at about 200 - 220 degrees. No idea how long I usually bake for - 7-10 mins?

Guess could work with honey if you wanted something sweet.

Thanks very much figrollin. I guess I could stew some apples and stick them in.

Eccles cakes! Currants and butter into discs of the pastry then turn over, flatten and slit tops, then bake till golden in hot oven.

Sorry if this is too late - I don't come on here every day.

I shoved half a jar of mincemeat onto rolled out puff pastry. folded it up like a parcel. baked for 30 mins, sprinkled icing sugar on.

very nice

roll out put a pear or thinly sliced apple on them.Egg wash. Sprinkle with demarera sugar and bake. serve pear with creme fraiche and apple with custard

small squares, coated with cinamon, pineapple slice in the middle, fold corners over to centre, like a little pasty, egg/milk, sugar on top, bake til gold and fluffed up!

MissWooWoo · 13/01/2010 11:36

I like the sound of that alypaly how long and at what temp please?

domesticextremist · 13/01/2010 11:40

we did mincemeat palmiers with ours - you roll it out flat. Spread a layer of mincemeat then roll it up from each end and slice - goes in the oven for 15-17 mins quite hot - about 7?

alypaly · 13/01/2010 11:54

just the normal temp for puff pastry...i think about 12-15 mins til its browned...but dont get egg on sides of puff pastry otherwise it wont rise properly. You can use a frsh pear too. garnished with a sprig of mint a sprinkle of icing sugar....masterpiece. The beauty is you can make ahead of time and as you are eating main course you could just pop in oven.

MissWooWoo · 13/01/2010 12:55

so just egg on apple?

alypaly · 13/01/2010 13:22

not a whole egg on the apple...yuk
beaten egg just brushed on the pastry to give it a nice colour

wukter · 13/01/2010 13:30

Or nutella inside? Haven't tried it just an idea!

Poppity · 13/01/2010 13:41

I make cinnamon whirls with mine.

Brush the inside with lots of butter, I put cream/creme fraiche in too if I have some. Sprinkle very genorously with brown sugar of some sort (not dark muscavado though) and a bit of cinnamon.

Roll up and brush the outside with beaten egg.
Slice up into 1"(ish) slices. Put on baking parchment and sprinkle more sugar on top.

Yummy and very bad

MissWooWoo · 13/01/2010 13:43

blimey do I come across as that thick in the cooking department alypaly? how about if I fry it first?

so on the apple and pastry but not on the sides of the pastry. right you are.

alypaly · 13/01/2010 13:45

it looked so funny on your post.i had visions of a fried egg on top of a pear..interesting...have a read of your post

MissWooWoo · 13/01/2010 13:47

hard boiled and sliced in layers on top

JackBauer · 13/01/2010 13:49

A really nice christmas thing is flat discs, spoon on mincemat, small circle of marzipan on top, brush pastry with egg and fold up edges to stick to marzipan.
Marzipan goes all gooey and chewy when cooked, it's lovely.
Or cinnamon rolls.
Or roll out, cover with grated cheese, fold over, squash and cut into slices.
Twist them and cover in cheese again, then bake for cheese straws.

is suppose the apple one is an upside down tart tatin but it looks impressive for dinner parties and te creame fraich goes well with either..get cooking

forgot...you can put an apricot jam gaze on top of apple if you want it a bit sweeter or demerera sugar
