If I warm up Nutella in microwave, will it keep safely in store cupboard?

Am finding it impossible to spread Nutella in this current cold weather. My ds loves it on soft white rolls for packed lunches.

Has anyone used a microwave to soften Nutella, and did it keep ok after?

Have just moved the Nutella into the warm, cosy utility room out of the cold kitchen for the same reason. DD3 peeled her Nutella off her toast the other morning and ate it, then handed me the toast to get more Nutella put on it (You wouldn't have me eat dry toast, now, would you Mummy? ).

Don't know the answer to your question, though, sorry!

I put it on the radiator in the morning to soften enough for spreading, was fine the next day.

Or Could you spoon out enough for the roll and melt it a little in a bowl?

ZacharyQuack · 05/01/2010 22:18

I nuke Nutella. It seems fine to me.

Thank you. I have started placing jar directly under the kitchen radiator and it softens the brown stuff enough to spread!

Great to hear your tips.

Might be a bit dodgey repeatedly heating the whole jar and letting it cool again - the longer food has in that 'warmish' temperature range, the more opportunities for bacteria to multiply. How about scooping out a big dollop into a wee dish and zapping it for a few seconds?

Eat the whole jar with a spoon.Give the child jam. HTH.

MrsBadger · 07/01/2010 13:38

there is way too much sugar and fat in nutella for it to be a bacterial risk

warm away!

LowLevelWhingeing · 07/01/2010 13:52

even jam can grow mould...

MrsBadger · 07/01/2010 13:53

yes, but mould isn't caused by bacteria and doesn't give you food poisoning.

GrimmaTheNome · 07/01/2010 13:59

Sorry 'keep' and 'Nutella' just don't go together

LowLevelWhingeing · 07/01/2010 14:57

Ya know? I had a feeling I was sticking my oar in where I shouldn't! MrsB, I bow to your superior knowledge of stuff you spread on toast, and I'll back out now.
