Is this chicken ok to use? ...

It was frozen on the day it was bought (about a week ago), took it out yesterday am and defrosted on counter-top (naughty, I know!) for about 6 hrs, then 2 hrs in fridge, then I wrapped it in bacon ... turned round to put it in the oven only to find the oven dead with (yet another) element blown.

I've put the chicken back in the fridge but am just not quite sure whether it's ok to use though my Mum says definitely.

Anybody?

TIA

Not in a million years.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 01/07/2005 08:54

just phoned dh (mr chef) and he says it should be fine....

starlover · 01/07/2005 09:09

yeah it should be fine. you defrosted yesterday right? and then it's been in the fridge since?

i would use it today. definitely

morningpaper · 01/07/2005 09:15

If it smells fine, use it. Off chicken smells like stilton cheese.

Tessiebear · 01/07/2005 09:24

I would use it if it smells ok

WideWebWitch · 01/07/2005 09:41

The main worry with chicken is salmonella and salmonella is destroyed by cooking so I'd use it provided it smells ok and is cooked properly.

Thanks everyone (I've been out all morning which is why I'm only catching up now!) ... will go and have a 'snuff' to check that it still smells like roses (or raw chicken) .

For the family - yes I'd use it. In my pub for customers - no. Is that bizarre or what???

Millie1 · 01/07/2005 15:36

Why Redsky? I ask although I imagine you're going to say that even though you know it's okay, if a customer became ill, the chicken would be blamed - even if not at fault!

I always use something I saw on an American 'food safety' website.

"If in doubt - throw it out"

Your family won't sue you and shut your business down I guess. Generally speaking
