Do I have to throw it out and start again?

Last night I made up a batch of chicken casserole, left it in the pot while DH made dinner, planning to freeze it in DS-sized servings to re-stock my 'easy' supper options for him.

I forgot about it and played on the wii instead

Woke up this morning to find it still on the stove top where it had been left out overnight. I've bunged it in the fridge since then and want your opinion on whether it's salvageable or whether I should toss it. I vaguely feel like if I brought it to the boil for a few minutes it would be ok? But then it's chicken, it cooled down slowly...it's for my PFB...

What would you do?

I'd use it.

But then, I'm a bit skanky when it comes to food.

minervaitalica · 31/12/2009 14:44

Have you tasted it? Unless your kitchen is very hot (or you live in a very hot place), then it probably is OK...

paulaplumpbottom · 31/12/2009 14:44

I personally wouldn't risk it. But I am so squeamish about food thats gone off

Oblomov · 31/12/2009 15:16

I would think it was fine. But I am not worried by this. I eat out of date food too.

duckyfuzz · 31/12/2009 15:18

I often leave food tp cool overnight, have suffered no ill effects and would happily eat your casserole

misshardbroom · 31/12/2009 15:20

sure it's fine.

TinselianAstra · 31/12/2009 15:21

I would eat it, would feed it to other people, would recommend that you eat it.

Cadelaide · 31/12/2009 15:30

I'd use it, definitely.

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 31/12/2009 15:30

I would use it

nickelbabyjesus · 31/12/2009 15:40

at this time of year your kitchen will be cold.
it'll be fine today if you re-heat it thoroughly.
i probably wouldn't eat it tomorrow though...

nannyl · 31/12/2009 15:43

anither vote for eat it...

just as long as it smells / looks / tastes ok and make sure it gets boiling hot before giving to DS (obv once cooled down from super hot!)

TillyMintSpy · 31/12/2009 15:47

Eat it - it will be fine!

Assuming your heating goes off overnight it shouldn't have been that warm anyway.

I wouldn't think twice about eating it but I'm another that eats out of date food if it looks and smells ok.

LadyBee · 31/12/2009 20:01

excellent news, I can see that the MN jury is firmly in favour of this one so I'm going to freeze it. I always heat things up to boiling when I'm defrosting anyway, so think it'll be fine. Ta.

it will be fine - presumably your heating goes off overnight and it was quite cold in your kitchen?

Shove it in the freezer sooner rather than later though.
