ok 4 people coming at 3pm tomorrow..so we'll be 6, but not a bad idea to have more food in case sister shows up or son decides to eat at home. they will probably hang about until late evening so i need lots of easy food

i've just taken medium size leg of lamb out of freezer, thinking of spicy marinade and roasting it

but no other ideas yet, maybe pilau rice and a couple of veg dishes, a soup and a dessert?

i want to prepare as much as possible in advance as dd1 (2) will no doubt demand all attention and dd2 (4 months) want to cluster feed.

no pork and plenty of spice...

any suggestions appreciated

I like Jamie oliver stuff, here are his lamb recipes: www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/search/lamb

For pud, how about Jamaican Crunch - a sort of cheesecake?

Make a biscuit base, but use ginger nuts instead of digestives. Then whip up some double cream, add a tin of condensed milk along with the rind & juice of 4 lemons. Mix well. Pour on top of the biscuit base and chill for several hours. Dead easy & nice served with raspberries.

Does it have to be a sit down dinner? Why not make it less formal and do a buffet type thing. Loads of shops do the pre prepared platters, and makes you look like you spent ages doing it

Get the food and drink flowing and let the kids be kids by having attention from all as its not so formal.

mamamila · 30/12/2009 12:01

i was thinking about cheesecake but probably need a cake that doesn't need refrigerating

You tube has quiet a few lamb leg deboning videos.

i was thinking of starting at the table with a soup and proper meal then eating cake and later snacks around the house. i know the guys will stay at the table drinking anyway..

Well no one will know if you have cheated, just hide 'evidence'. What area do you live in? Are there speciality shops near you? Buy their soup cook it up as your own. Buy a cake from a cake shop. And just do the main yourself. Leg of lamb and trimmings (veg always easist, just bung them in a steamer!).

Then a couple of buffet platters for as the night goes on.

this is lovely - kashmiri style lamb

I have done this twice now for guests and it goes down a storm. I also did a chicken curry and spicy green beans to go with it.

LouLouH · 30/12/2009 12:13

bellavita just checked it out, that looks yummy, think i'll nick that one

mamamila · 30/12/2009 12:19

ooh bellavita i like the look of that lamb

any ideas for veg?
something delicious i can prepare in advance? and soup, did my spiced coconut squash soup last time for 2 of guests so something equally wintery

Yes, I did spicy green beans (will look for recipe for you)

How about doing some bombay potato?

The lamb is really really easy to do and it is melt in your mouth.

bellavita · 30/12/2009 12:37

spicy green beans recipe

So, all I would do is,

Large pot of chicken curry

Kashmiri style leg of lamb

Spicy green beans

Bombay potato

Poppadums and pickles

All very simple, but effective.
