Easy put-together dessert for 10ish people?

Hi,
My family are coming round tomorrow for lunch and I need some inspiration for dessert. Am recovering from flu so haven't got the energy for anything complicated. Was thinking trifle or something similar - anyone got any good tried-and-tested recipes?
Thanks

go to m&S
buy meringue nests
fruit compote
cream (you can even get it already whipped)
mix all three together

tada

Should you be doing this if you're ill!

We usually do tiramisu for large parties - individual glasses. Just set up a production line and plonk everything in then stick in fridge. Here's a recipe

Delicious fake creme brulee grape thingy - is absolutely delicious!!!

Using a flan dish or large casserole dish.
Cover the bottom with seedless grapes, or however deep you want to (can also add banana or kiwi as this is delicious too).
Whip double cream till peaking and add in two toffee yoghurts.
Spread cream/toffee yoghurt mix over the grapes.
Sprinkle loads of muscavado sugar over the top and put in fridge, the sugar will melt all over the top.
This is absolutely beautiful and really simple!!

Do you know what I would do if I was poorly and needed as little fuss as poss?

One bowl of sweeties (jellybeans, jellybabies, licorice allsorts), one bowl of chocolate coins and quality street, a huge plate of colourful fruit cut and arranged nicely, plate of cheese and christmas cake cut into little pieces.

and let everyone dive in.
We have done this past few times of having people round informally and it's worked really well.
Get well soon.

Get a can of rasberries and strain them a bit and fling in to a glass dish.

then get a carton of shop bought custard and a bar of dark chocolate. pop the chocolate into microwave for a minute, stir into the custard, and then pop the lot in the fridge to set.

"rasberry & chocolate pudding"

Oooo that sounds yum Maggie! Will try that myself!

mumhadenough - yours sounds yum, but do you mean put it in the oven?

sazlocks · 27/12/2009 13:39

My lazy puddings are nice vanilla ice cream or plain vanilla cheescake with a selection of crushed up flakes, mistrels, malterers, fruit, choc sauce etc so that everyone can decorate their own.

No, she means the fridge. The sugar does sort of melt.

My suggestion would be like hers, but less healthy: whip double cream and mix with equal quantity natural yogurt. Sprinkle generously with brown sugar, allow to 'melt'.

mumhadenough · 27/12/2009 14:03

No, not in the oven Weakatthecheese, just in the fridge, the muscavado sugar kind of just melts into the cream and it goes caramelly, its delish!
