Can anyone suggest a Vegetarian Alternative to Turkey?

This is going to sound really stupid, but I really don't have a clue what to do for my Vegetarian sister in law who's joining the family for Christmas dinner at my house this year.

I won't have room in my oven or on my hob to cook an entirely different meal for her. So I was hoping that I could get some advice on something that's a good vegetarian option to go with the rest of the usual Christmas dinner favourites as a tasty and thoughtful alternitive.

She's a smashing lady and would be happy with just eating the rest without the Turkey - but I want to make her dinner as special as (hopefully) ours is going to be.

Any suggestions and pointers on how to prepare and cook the vegetarian dishes would be most gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

We are veggie and always have a Quorn Family Roast (I think that's what it's called) with all the trimmings. If there's not enough room in the oven for that then Quorn escalopes are nice.

A nut roast - fairly easy to do, I whizz up a load of nuts and breadcrumbs in the food blender, make some stuffing mix up with hot water (check it's a veggie one) and combine the 2, sometimes with an egg for binding (check she's not a vegan...) and if it's only me eating the nut roast (I live with fleshies)then cook in a ramakin dish well away from any splashing meat juices - sometimes sitting in the pan with the roast potatoes IYSWIM. You can just do a handful of nuts and a slice of bread for smaller portions.

You could be flash and layer it up with some chestnuts or a layer of chopped and fried/cooked down mushrooms and onions, like a mushroom pate (what could get put around a beef wellington) or some blue cheese if she likes that or cranberrie/sauce etc, and 2 ramekins should be MORE than enough (My ramekins are the same diameter as a mug). Mine usually take about 20 mins to cook through and should be moist and springy when they come out of the oven (tho sometimes they are brown and black around the edges when I get distracted )

Plus instant veggie gravy granules and a spoon of red currant sauce or cranberry sauce stirred through it - and please don't use goose fat for you potatoes

ps - have a lovely Christmas, and you sound like a super SIL to go to this trouble

Excellent suggestions, thanks so much for taking the time to respond.

I think she's the super SIL to be honest, but thanks

Have a great Christmas everyone.

We always have the Quorn roast. You can easily stick that in the oven a few hours before dinner. Takes 45 minutes.

I've got a recipe for a stuffed pumpkin with a tomato sauce that looks delicious, if you'd like it post on here and I'll find if it's online or will type in if not.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner - overwhelmed working mum syndrome and trying to create the perfect Christmas too.

I think I'm going to go with the Quorn Roast, however, I'd really love to have the receipe for the a Stuffed Pumpkin with tomato sauce - it sounds great!

Thanks very much.

we have veggies. i do a puff pastry effort.

on a sheet of puff pastry i put a layer of quorn sausages topped with a layer of homemade stuffing then a final layer of sauteed mushrooms. i then cover with more puff pastry to make a parcel.

easy and very yum. only takes 20 minutes or less in the oven so i usually shove it in while the turkey is resting.
