Cooking stuffing in a loaf tin, as opposed to in small balls

[BB giggles at having typed 'small balls']

I am short on oven space and if I coudl cook all my stuffing in a loaf tin (filled quite close to the top) it would really help. But will it cook ok like this or will it be all squishy on the inside and not cook properly? I know stuffing is supposed to be a bit squidgy but I don't want it completely soft.
Also, I wonder how much longer it would take to cook than the small balls... [giggles again]

Jamie did his in a shallow ceramic roaster

but if the tin is shallow then it takes up too mihc space - I need the other half a shelf for my carrots (don't ask why carrots not on hob, too dull to explain )

yes you can but it needs to be cooked longer and cooler

ie cook with the turkey not the spuds

Bodenbabe · 19/12/2009 16:18

mrsbadger, will it still cook in the middle then?

also in the Christmas theme - our turkey arrives on the 22nd, will it be ok to leave in garage (it's fresh not frozen) or would you make room in the fridge for it?

Bodenbabe · 19/12/2009 16:22

i'd check with your butcher but sure it will be fine.

thanks bb - getting it as a gift from work, but may ask in my local butchery, good idea!

hatwoman · 19/12/2009 16:43

skymoo - if you leave it in the garage you could brine it (if you have a big enough container) ie soak it in spicey salkty water - meant to make the meat particularly tender

duckyfuzz · 19/12/2009 16:44

my mum has always done it this way, but as mrsb says, alter the timing and temp

Hi Hat, thanks for the reply. I don't think I have anything, unless it would fit in my washing up bowl. Would it not taste very salty?

Oh to win the lottery and buy a massive fridge

hatwoman · 19/12/2009 20:15

I think this is the one I used . I'll be honest - I don't think it made a big difference flavour-wise - but I do think it made it nice and moist.
