What are your fave starters for Xmas dinner?

We are at DP's Mum's this year for Xmas Dinner.
She buys all her food from M&S cos she has vouchers from her credit card or something.

She has asked DP and I what starters we would like on the day. But they have to be from M&S. All I could think of was smoked salmon.

Anybody got any better ideas. I am having trouble with getting their website to load due to really really slow internet connection....

Help!

Will bump this as I would also choose salmon or trout.

A salmon mousse type thing maybe.

Definitely smoked salmon or prawns/crayfish tails.

Or a nice paté to have with toast?

Why didn't I think of paté ??

I managed to get onto their food bit for a few moins before the slow loading time caused me to close the window - had seen a starter of lime and corriander chicken pieces. Do you think that would be too filling?

DP doesn't like fish.....

DP's Mum is probably cooking duck, goose and turkey this year with all imaginable trimmings.

She feeds us on Xmas Day, DP's Sis and her family on Boxing Day and DP's Grandparents the day after and then feeds leftovers to anyone who wants them

I think the chicken would be too filling for me. If you can't have fish (not even smoked salmon or smoked mackerel pate?) I'd go with something very light but tasty, eg beetroot and goats cheese salad with ready-bagged mixed bitter lettuce (frisee if they have it), and some chopped walnuts sprinkled over the top. All of the ingredients are available at M+S.

I am doing this wilted winter salad- looks tasty and light, and pretty christmassy
