Have a freezer-full of meat. A certain little someone (my 18-month old ds) turned it off this morning, unbeknownst to me!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, panicking a bit. Help! Can I refreeze it?? I've always believed this will cause food poisoning. True?

The freezer has been closed all day. The meat is fully defrosted. Just turned it back on now.

NO! You need to cook it first then freeze it.

DH has checked them and they're not fully defrosted actually; still have ice crystals. But, more or less defrosted. He's turned freezer up to max.

ilove, do you know of anyone who's had food poisoning as consequence of eating refrozen meat? i'm just wondering if it's overzealous health officials telling the public not to refreeze.

DH and I once had a vile meal of fish that I'd frozen after not realising it had been previously frozen before I bought it. It tasted awful, and made us both want to throw up. Not worth the risk, IMO. Cook what you can, even if it's a huge vat of stew/casserole/bolognaise, then freeze that.

We had a similar experience with salmon to EvilTwins. Was not pleasant. if it was me I would cook all I could/give the rest to my Mum.

yuck, that fish story would be enough to put you off for life, wouldn't it!

DH is very relaxed about food hygiene (far more than me or my mum!!) and so said we should eat it. I've decided not to. Not worth the risk.
