Have the pleasure of my Mum's company for 2 weeks over Christmas/New Year with other friends/relatives dropping in as and when.
So need a balance of ordinary family meals plus "more effort meals" cos it is Christmas after all.

My main meals are as follows:
Special days:
Christmas Day (Turkey & all the trimmings)
Boxing Day ("left overs pie")
New Years Eve (Salmon en croute)

Other days:
Fish pie
Shepherds pie
Roast gammon &ratatouille
Roast beef, Yorkshire puds
Cold cuts & salad
Lamb Stew
Chicken
Red bream
Pasta meal (lasagne/spag bol/etc etc)

Lunches (any combination of):
Quiche
Soup
Broth
Toasted sandwiches
salad
sausage rolls
ommelettes
sandwiches
tuna melts
bacon, egg, beans etc

always on offer:
Fresh fruit/cheese/cold meats/yoghurts/bread & sandwich filling)

I haven't gone in to detail re sides/veg/salad and haven't listed puddings cos they are just extras. If you were spending 2 weeks with me, what is missing from the above lists, & what would make it better balanced?
Thanks

Pudding! A balanced diet has to include pudding.

looks great to me...and quite a feat of planning having someone for a fortnight plus other guests. I feel exhausted just looking at your list. personally I'd throw in a couple of veggie meals - christmas can be very meat-heavy - perhaps quite a basic veggie pasta dish (brocolli and pine nuts with parmesan?), or a veggie risotto, or make a meal out of roasted veg, or spanish tortilla.

HappySmiley, there will of course be plenty of puddings! Hatwoman, excellent idea re vegetarian dishes - exactly the kind of advice I was after.
Any other thoughts about lunches? Find having someone in the house (even if it's my Mum) means that we eat far more than we would if just on our own.

Only other things I can think of are:

baking spuds
pesto
pickles and mustards etc
dips like hummous
felafal or something so you can do pitta pockets with salad as a veggie lunch
Smoked salmon for a special brekkie

thats it! Sounds yum. Am hungry now.

120cmsOfSnow · 14/12/2009 11:23

well Brian, it makes a nice change from babies

lilolilmanchester · 14/12/2009 11:24

Baked potatoes - great idea, thanks 120cms.

Brian, am not obsessed thank you, just trying to get organised with shopping due to a very stressful week ahead at work and would actually quite like to enjoy feeding my guests well, but relatively stress-free, over the festive season...
