Easy, freezable, child-friendly chocolate pudding

I know this is a big ask, but does anyone know of a recipe that ticks those boxes?

Need to find a child-friendly pudding (not too rich) that I can make now and serve as an alternative to Christmas pudd. Doesn't have to be chocolate, but that would go down well with children. Did a white choc cheesecake recipe from MN last year, but I'm afraid that was just too sweet for our taste.

Any ideas gratefully received

You could always make brownies and freeze them then on the day, defrost what you need and warm them up and serve with cream.

Mmm, that's sounding quite good. Not sure tho' as have to take it to someone else's house and may not be very easy to warm them up.

What about a chocolate mousse - something that can be served straight from the fridge?

fatsatsuma · 07/12/2009 22:51

Can you freeze a chocolate mousse do you think?

is it just for children, or for adults too? Tbh if just for children, I'd just buy a couple of tubs of decent icecream, one vanilla and one chocolate and some maltesers and white choc buttons to be bashed and then sprinkled over.

Janeite, I like the idea (a lot ) but we are going to be someone else's guests, and our hosts are cooking everything else on Christmas Day, and I feel I really should have made a bit of an effort.

But I will mull that one over and see if I can find a way of justifying it to myself...

Does it have to freeze or can it just be something you make in advance? Because a trifle would keep for a few days and usually they go down a treat.

My other suggestion would be a chocolate log but you would probably have to ice it in the morning.

fatsatsuma · 08/12/2009 13:46

Thanks happysmiley. I have thought about a trifle, but one of the kids is quite fussy and I'm not sure about all the cream etc.

Chocolate log is also a possibility and have done one before - but it's not that easy

Sorry I'm being so awkward.

How about whisking melted chocolate with chestnut puree (they won't notice it but I guess you could leave it out!), whipping cream, a dash of vanilla and some caster sugar? You can then put into small dishes/ramekins and chill until you go, and then pop into your friend's fridge when you get there. It's yummy!

happysmiley · 08/12/2009 15:47

or what about martha stewart's chocolate pavlova

Make the meringue in advance and leave in an airtight tin and you can make the dark chocolate cream in advance. Take them both seperately to the party and assemble when you are there. There is whipped cream on top but you could leave it out or skim it off the top of the difficult kid with the cream issues' portion.

fatsatsuma · 08/12/2009 16:07

Thanks chelseamorning and happysmiley, am liking both of those a lot

I recommend brownies (iwth heaps of icing sugar on top to look very 'snowy' - and a sprig of holly?) - make in advance and then warm in microwave. Take nice ice cream too.

JaneiteMightBite · 08/12/2009 17:38

Ooh have got another idea for you! Chocolate fondue - no need to makein advance as it takes only minutes on the day, everybody loves it. You could always make and freeze cute little biscuits to dip into it; plus you could have a seletion of fruit, marshmallows, bits of sponge cake etc.

purpleturtle · 08/12/2009 17:43

I can't imagine warming brownies would be an issue. The oven will be on for the main course, and you can bung brownies in once everything's out of it, can't you?
