Can anyone please suggest canape-type food that does not include cheese? All I can think of are cheesy ones!

Having a house party at the weekend, we are doing hot pork and hot salmon sandwiches later on but wanted to put out some nibbles and canapes earlier (cold ones that can be prepped before). I have the following ideas to go on bruschetta/melba toast:
Parma ham or smoked salmon with cream cheese
Mozarella and tomato
Goats cheese and red onion chutney or cranberry sauce

Can anyone please suggest anything else? I seem to have cheese on the brain!

also thought about getting some mini sushi nibbles - would this be messy?

how about some hot spicy nuts - nigella has a good recipe and they are lush with drinks

Also she does green beans tied with parma ham ribbons which are nice

also how about unusual types of houmous or pate on little bits of melba

oooh yum, they sound delish

teeny tiny pastry cases with things like tapenade insdie

I would do the smoked salmon on blinis (get in Sainsbury's) with creme fraiche rather than cheese and a snip of dill.

Nigella does a lovely roasted pepper houmous thing for melba toasts or the like.

Honey mustard cocktail sausages are good.

i make a really large french onion tart adn serve up little squares

fab ideas!

(don't blinis need to be warm?)

Mash tomatoes, black olives (ideally ones with the stones still in as they're nicer but take stones out!) and basil with a pestle and mortar. Rub bruschetta with cut garlic clove, spoon on mixture and drizzle with olive oil. Yummy

You could also do pate - mushroom or pork and put tiny cornichons on the meat one

And you can make your own tapenade really easily in a food mixer

just a thought - if I make the morning of the party will the ones on toast/bruschetta/crackers/etc go soggy by the evening?

Yes they will - I would assemble just before guests arrive or they are horrid. But you can bake the bruschetta in big batches and then they are really quick to assemble

ok thanks, will do them later on
