So, I need a new one, preferably one that isn't so easily broken, I bought my dad a Bodum one that was unbreakable, however cannot seem to find another one.

Anyone recommend one for me? An insulated one would be good, 12 cup, budget £50 ish

this

Ilovemy; that is perfect, less breakable.

Nikki a cafetiere is the coffee pot/jug, with the plunger as above in the links.

IMHO it makes the best coffee, my family has a ritual for making coffee, so if you want to know, I can tell you that.

Also Nikki, when buying a cafetiere, when it says 8 cups, it is more like 3 ordinary cups/mugs worth, 12= 4 cups/mugs!

So when you think "oh 4 cups? Perfect!" it only really equals one ordinary cup, 2 at a push. :0

I have a stainless steel one from Whittards. It was expensive, about £40 I think, but well worth it. As well as being unbreakable is it more insulated than a glass one.

MollieO · 03/12/2009 17:10

If the glass bit is broken you can get a replacement.

Nikki87 · 03/12/2009 17:19

ohhh purple i know what u mean now, my mum used to have one, a glass bodem one [i always knew it as a 'bodem' not a cafetiere, lol], i quite like the one from John Lewis [as a starter one for me] but I'll keep my eye out for a nicer one when I'm looking and if I see one I'll post for you

shoofly · 03/12/2009 20:11

look for a Stellar cafetiere - I can't post the link as I'm incompetent . They have a double stainless steel wall which keeps the coffee really hot and they are fab - We got the big one as a wedding present and then I bought a smaller one as well. They are on the Amazon website but I have seen them cheaper in TK Maxx. The polished finish of ours is a bit scratched after 9 years but it makes great coffee

Pinner35 · 03/12/2009 20:15

Have a look in your local charity shops....ours always have an abundance of cafetieres. I've bought three Bodum ones (in varying sizes) only recently.

theyoungvisiter · 03/12/2009 20:16

ooo I profoundly disagree! A filter makes far better coffee IMO and I am a coffee addict.

However I accept that it's down to taste.

It is worth knowing though that filter coffee is better for you. The filter catches some of the components that can cause raised cholesterol, which pass through the mesh of a cafetiere.

PlanetEarth · 03/12/2009 21:05

I got fed up of breakages, now have a one-cup stainless steel cafetiere that I've had for years, and one that makes 3-4 cups from Whittards. More expensive, but a better investment of money IMO.
