It's for DD's christening in just under 2 weeks. I don't want to end up doing lots of different stuff, just one thing that I can make in advance and re-heat.

Can anyone help?

Oooh difficult - I keep thinking of things then remembering they have tomato.

Maybe a stew/casserole type thing - browned meat, then add veg (eg beef or lamb with carrots, onions, bit of celery, leeks, herbs) and stock/red wine, and slow-cook for a few hours - serve with mashed potatoes (remembering not to add butter! - you can make nice mash with olive oil). You can use a bit of cornflour in at the browning stage instead of wheat flour.

Lancashire hotpot. Use oil instead of butter and thicken with cornflour if maize is ok or arrowroot or don't thicken

Hiya missus!

How about a big baked ham? That would be quite seasonal and you could serve it with a warm potato salad (I think there's a reasonably tasty vegan mayonnaise available isn't there?) and a big green salad or some veggies. Nigella's coca cola one is nice. I've also done her one in cranberry and apple juices and the ginger-glazed one - both good.

You could cook it completely in advance and serve it cold or do the boiling part in advance and then fling it in the oven for half an hour or so to do the glaze just beforehand.

I thought about stew, but would be expensive to serve lots of people.

Also thought about curry, but there will be lots of kids so not sure they;d eat it.

Good ideas though, any others?

A load of baked potatoes with a few toppings - cold if necessary?

Hi midnight!

Like the big ham idea, I love the nigella ham in coke.

Big ham, german potato salad (with red onions, capers and vinaigrette instead of mayo; you put the dressing over when the potatoes are warm and it slighty softens the onion and soaks into the spuds).

For pudding do fruit kebabs with a toffee or strawberry dipping sauce. Yum!
