Might sound like a dumb question.... you hvae to feed the cake but will the alcohol evapourate when you cook it?

recipie here everyone on the site says its easy to make etc so it seems perfect for my culinary skills.

is there anything else i can use instead of alcohol if it doesnt cook off?

I did a wedding cake for someone who didn;t like the taste of really rich alcoholic fruit cake so I soaked the fruit in pineapple juice and fed it with pineapple juice once it was cooked.

Apparently it tasted gorgeous .

My mum can't take any alcohol at all for medical reasons, and avoids anything with alcohol in at all - even when cakes are cooked some remains. She won't even take most cold remedies.

probably better to be safe than sorry (or you could ask your grandpa or other family member if he can eat it, on the offchance)

We have always bought alcohol free ones in the past so im not sure.
i have found something called "rum extract" on the internet so i will have a look at it in tesco nd see if that is suitable. would be nice to have a home made cake.
was going to let my niece help me decorate it.
