Last year he got a Porsche(ish) and for fathers day DD1 made him an xbox controller.

He likes to ride his motorbiketoo fast.
He likes to play car racing games on teh xbox.
he likes coffee and walnut cake

I don't want to do a 'bike lying on it's side' type cake, I want something different, I can do time consuming but not expensive, I have plain fondant and colourings but budget is minimal.

?

Go to costco if you have a card, they do lovely cakes, very big, you can have a message and choose from one or two different styles - best bit is.... no cooking and only about 12.00 quid. I would really recommend them.

FreeGeorgeJackson · 30/11/2009 20:27

dont bother

JackBauer · 30/11/2009 21:04

OKay. Thanks for advice.

I'll rephrase. I want to make a cake for DH as he is getting no other presents as we can't afford them.
Any ideas?

Would it be too boring to make it look like a wrapped present?

Will keep thinking.

JackBauer · 30/11/2009 21:18

I like the way you are thinking purple. especially as he has just looked over my shoulder and said he just wants a cake. he doesn't care what it looks like as long as I cook it.

Ingrate.

If he just wants a cake, and wants a lovely cake, I can highly recommend Nigella's chocolate cake from her book How to Eat. It's really, really easy. No beating/creaming - cake is made from chocolate and condensed milk melted together, with eggs beaten in and that lot then stirred into flour.

purpleturtle · 30/11/2009 21:31

How rude!

Haven't come up with anything else.

(And perhaps he has a point - I always peel the fondant icing off and eat just the cake, anyway )

purpleturtle · 30/11/2009 21:33

I'd stick to the coffee & walnut cake he likes. In fact, I think that's what I made my dh earlier this month (I asked him, and he can't remember). I'm sure I just put walnuts on the top and stuck a load of candles in it .

JackBauer · 30/11/2009 21:38

I am doing the coffee walnut cake (thanks anyway for recipe) but I wanted to make it look 'pretty'

What would you like to be able to give him for his birthday? If money were no object? Can you make that? Or would it be last year's Porsche?

choosyfloosy · 30/11/2009 21:46

erm, steering wheel?

speedway track?
Isle of Man in cake form?

JackBauer · 30/11/2009 23:04

purple. A holiday. probably including a trip round the nurburgring on an overpowered motorbike...

Sod it, I'll just do the 'normal' cake and will go all out on ym christmas one.

wrapped present works well. I did one for DH when lacking inspiration and motivation time and it was really effective.

Bodenbabe · 02/12/2009 11:06

I made my DH an ipod cake that was very effective - and it was a normal-shaped cake so easy to get your coffee & walnut recipe in.
