Turkey crown. Is this ok?

We normally buy a whole fresh turkey for Christmas. However, this year we wondered if we should buy two turkey crowns instead. (There will be seven adults and five children for dinner).

Two questions for you:

  1. Are turkey crowns tasty? The idea of no carcass lying around afterwards appeals to me this Christmas.
  1. Is there much difference between a frozen turkey and a fresh one? The price difference appeals to me too!!

The turkey crowns are much tastier than a whole turkey, they are very juicy and not at all dry.

I would always go for fresh, I have never bought a frozen one but I have had frozen ones at other peoples houses and they don't taste as nice. Not sure if it is down to the way they have cooked them but they have always been on the dry side.

Always have a fresh turkey crown as we too hate the waste - most of us only ever eat the breast meat anyway.
IMO tastes just as good as a whole turkey
Not sure on the frozen v fresh debate though.

Turkey crowns taste just as nice as 'regular' turekey, and I dont' think freezing makes any difference, either. Obviously Thedollshouse is simply a better cook than her friends!

But I will never have a turkey crown in my house again. Toooooo freaky-looking for me. I'd much rather have all the bits and use them up. Children usually like a bone to gnaw on.

Have had fresh and frozen (full turkeys, not had a crown cos we like the mix of light & dark meat) Hard pressed to tell the difference, tho we've had them a year apart, might be able to tell the difference if they were side by side! I think fresh are more forgiving in the cooking, so if frozen, you have to work a bit harder at keeping moist. I swear by the following a) an unpeeled cooking apple in the cavity b) baste frozen more regularly than fresh c) turn upside down to rest and the juices will relax back in to the breast.

(just to clarify, by "frozen" I mean ones that had been frozen and then defrosted before cooking!)

fresh ones are yum and easy peasy, I'd have one this year, but Dh has insisted on a turkey, 2 adults and 2 kids!

He also aghast that I have got Aunt Bessies frozen honeyed parsnip. Oh the horror!
