DD made a surprise breakfast this morning. She toasted a whole loaf of bread. Can I use it to make bread and butter pudding? Any other suggestions?

It was very sweet of her but we already had rolls for breakfast and even so she had slightly overestimated our appetites.

Bit of a shame to throw it out, is very lightly toasted. Would have to be the expensive Mulino Bianco toast of course.

any ideas?

I'd have a go at bread and butter pudding if u warp it in foil it will be ok until later today I would think?

ZacharyQuack · 14/11/2009 10:05

You could whiz it in the food processor and freeze it for breadcrumbs.

Cheese on toast for lunch>

Spread with marmite and/or cheese and bake in oven until crisp, will keep in airtight jar for days and kids (wierdos) seem to like it.

We are a marmite free household. German DH thought that marmite was a weird joke that the Brits play on unsuspecting overseas guests.

I don't use breadcrumbs very often but suppose I could do a batch for the freezer.

Might try the cheesey snacks. I think that the DC might eat them.

Or bread and butter pud. DH is going out tonight though so I would have to do it tomorrow. Or could I make it and freeze it? Never made it before, will have to see if I have a recipe.

Thanks for the advice.

MmeLindt how about a Swiss version of ZacharyQuack recipe with Cenovis instead of Marmite?

ZacharyQuack · 14/11/2009 10:44

Feed the ducks?

AitchTwoToTangOh · 14/11/2009 10:46

chop them up and freeze for croutons?

GentleOtter · 14/11/2009 10:55

New Orleans bread & butter pud.

bread
milk
3 eggs
2 cups of sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla
3 tablespoons butter
1 cup raisins or sultanas

Soak bread in milk. Squish with hands until well mixed.

Add the eggs, sugar, vanilla and dried fruit and stir well.

Put the butter in the bottom of a dish, melt it then set it aside. (The recipe works well without this)

Cube the pudding mix and put it on top of the butter. Cook in 180 oven for about 20 mins or so. Sprinkle with icing sugar.

Cenovis? Gorionine, have I missed a Swiss speciality?

That recipe looks easy. I suppose we (DC and I) could have that for supper. Hmmmm.

I don't think we are supposed to feed the ducks. Something to do with the algae in the lake.

"marmite was a weird joke that the Brits play on unsuspecting overseas guests"
From the country that has Aromat? (Appreciate your DH is German not Swiss).

GentleOtter · 14/11/2009 11:17

Or layer grated vegetables, pour on savoury white sauce then mix the toast breadcrumbs with chopped onion as a savoury crispy topping. Bake for 20 mins.

stressedHEmum · 14/11/2009 16:11

You could break the toast into bits, put it in a baking dish. Fry a chopped onion and add 2 tins of chopped tomatoes, a pinch of sugar, salt and pepper. Pour this over the toast, sprinkle some grated cheese onver the top and dot with butter. Bake at 170 for about 30 minutes. You can eat this with meat and green veg.

Lilymaid
Ha! DH hates Aromat as well. And Maggi, if you know that.

He was most upset one time when he had made delcious Spaghetti Bolognese and his colleague put loads of Maggi in it.

Well, we have been out all day so after all that agonising I have not had time to do anything. Will have to do breadcumbs now. Might do GO's veg bake tomorrow evening, that sounds yummy.

Thanks all for the suggestions, and I am definitely going to make the Bread and Butter Pudding that you posted too.
