When can you stop boiling water ?

Can you give a 6 month old bottled water? And do you have to boil it?

no - too high in minerals - the only bottled water you should give is Evian, which has a baby friendly symbol on it, and does not have the high mineral content - you dont have to boil it - straight from bottle is ok

I gave ds plain tap water at 6 months.

Bottled water (unboiled)is certainly OK as long as it has a low sodium level.

cm - there's nothing wrong with hard water - limescale is calcium which is good for you.

yes, my DS had water from from tap which we then boiled (although we did use one of those jugs with a filter on it to try to get rid of the limescale after I got tired of seeing those white floaty bits in the water)

a jug with a filter (from Boots or Robert Dyas) would be cheaper in long run than Evian too !

can't be more limescaley than here (london) and mine have been fine on tap water since 6 months

they say 12 months, when you stop sterilising, which is what we did

but i know plenty of second time mums who stop boiling and sterilising when there little ones start putting bark, stones, the dogs bone, etc into their mouths

govt advice is you don't need to sterilise after 6 months. so we used (london) tapwater after that too.

beansprout - how old is baby? if under a year, i would be boiling water from the Thames - i've seen what floats in that river!

Isn't it something to do with sterilizing bottles because milk grows nasties so easily? So if you wash in hot soapy water and sterilise (or dishwash) then you've definitely got them totally clean? I've never bothered to sterilize anything else.

Hoxtonchick which bit of the govt advises that its ok to stop at 6mo? I thought it was 12mo for bottles. But would happily stop in 2 months time!

it was in the 0-5 book you get given when your baby's born (though dp has thrown ours away, grrrr, so i can't check). definitely remember it though, it appealed to my natural laziness!
