Does anybody please have a really good recipe for chickpea curry, which doesn't involve tomatoes in any shape or form please?

Thank you!

I used to do one. It's more like a biryani.
Hang on I'll get the book....
Here we go.
Curried rice with spinach
1 tbsp sunflower oil
2 cloves garlic crushed
2 tbsp medium curry paste
250gm basmati rice
450 ml vegetable stock
400g can of chick peas
handful of raisins
175g frozen leaf spinach
handful cashew nuts
natural yoghurt to serve [optional]

heat the oil in a large non-stick pan that has a lid, then fry the garlic and curry paste over a medium heat for 1 minute until it smells toasty.
Tip the rice into the pan with the stock, chickpeas and raisins and stir well with a fork to stop the rice from clumping. Season with salt and pepper and then cover and bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium and and cook for 12-15 mins or until all the liquid has been absorbed and the rice is tender.
Squeeze the excess water from the spinach and tip it into the pan along with 2 table spoons of hot water. Fluff up the rice with a fork, mixing the spinach in well. Toss in the cashews. Drizzle with natural yoghurt if liked.

I found the rice stuck quite a lot and tried just bunging the pan into a hot oven for 20 mins to cook the rice instead. This worked.

That sounds nice, thanks (except for the raisins!) but really want a curry recipe too, if anybody has one. You know like you get in restaurants, where the chickpeas are all dark and tamarindy tasting, instead of horridly red tomato-tasting?

I think the dds would love your one though, especially the cashews.

In a pan or wok fry some sliced onions with chopped ginger and garlic then add hot madras curry powder (89p for a small packet from any indian store) add a teaspoon per tin of chickpeas. then drain the chickpeas and add to the onions. cook on a low heat. Use a cheese grater to grate a whole cucumber add half the grated cucumber. cook till the water evaporates. now add fresh coriander and chopped fresh green chillies. take of the heat and add freshly sliced lettuce and the rest of the cucumber on top. Enjoy it in a wrap or chapati or with rice.

I don't usually like chickpeas. Am tempted to try this recipe though
