Super duper mail order Christmas turkey?

We got our turkey from our local butcher last year and it was pretty poor. We're thinking this year of going mail order.

Would definitely want free-range. Organic too preferably.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Yes, the butchers only buy in cheap turkeys are sell "fresh". Most butchers have sold out to the cheaper market now. You are looking for Bronze turkeys which are hung or matured for a min 5 days. Butchers used to approach me to sell to them but they wanted them so cheap it didnt cover our costs (min £20 each to raise, plus slaughter, packaging etc - profit £5 each if lucky!)

Kelly bronze sell their chicks to farmers all around all country and you can get these ready to roast on the farm gate. You'll be surprised who many small farms do these but have to keep it quiet from the environmental health people because of these stupid laws.

Bronze turkeys are far superior to white over inflated breasted birds. You are looking for good layer of fat under the breast and cook it unside down and flip over for the last 40mins. A 14Ib should only take 2.5hrs! It should have a lovely aroma when fresh not smellness.

There are bound to be farmers around you selling beef and if they dont do it they will point you in the right direction. So you may find a friendly farmer on your doorstep who will deliver it! Or try your local livestock market they will help you.

The kelly bronze are extemely expensive but there are other farmers out there selling between £7.50 - £9.50pkg.

Come back to me if still stuck!

Hi, I didn't want to go shopping last year for my christmas turkey. Too many people in the shop and too much stress.
So I decided to check what was on line. So I found a very good butcher AllensofMayfair, apparently well known in London. And I was very happy with my choice.
Their website is easy to use, you order on line, pay online, choose your day of delivery and wait for your turkey to knock on your door. The turkey was fresh and not frozen like manny of them. I received many compliments of my family about it.

I will order from them again this year.

We get ours from our very good local butcher but this is the supplier they use. They do home delivery and the free range bronze turkeys are fab.
