You'll know next time. It's every man for himself

Dumbledoresgirl · 02/10/2009 19:15

I made it today too. The only thing I would take issue with is the notion that it cuts easily into slices. No it doesn't. The cake is very light and crumbly and wherever I sliced, I got a jagged edge with the pieces of apple stikcing out. Next time I will puree the apple first.

But it is delish. Plenty left over here PVish!

PVish · 02/10/2009 19:48

ash interesting
I left it in the tin a long while in fact ahd turned the oven off 10 mins ebfore end as the top was brwoning too much

then left in tin for a few hours.
cut fine

Yes, I can imagine it would cut fine after a few hours but I wanted to try it straightaway!

Also interested to know yours browned too quickly. So did mine (2 corners burned before I realised and got it out at 42 mins). 45-50 mins seemed way too long for a traybake.

ConFuschias · 02/10/2009 23:06

what tray did you use PVish? a roasting tin like when you make the lemon drizzle?

PVish · 03/10/2009 19:19

yes its about all I have

OP posts:
ConFuschias · 03/10/2009 19:24

Me too. I remember feeling a kinship when you revealed you used the same. Am pleased the apple cake also works out in it - means I can stick with my trusty roasting tin.

PVish · 03/10/2009 19:30

i buy cheap ones and then bin them after a while - cant be arsed with brilloing
spec at xmass - ought osme from poundland for the bacon rolls etc and bInned

i just remember the roasting tin comment and thinking ' yes - someone else as lazy ingenious as me

QuintessentialShadowsOfDoom · 06/10/2009 22:32

Oh, this is exactly what I am looking for!

I need a nice traybake for the kids football teams end of season party. Somebody is already bringing a chocolate traybake.

How many pieces do you reckon you get out of it?

We dont have self raising flour in norway. What do I add to make normal flour self raising, does anyone know?

StirlingNeedsAHoliday · 06/10/2009 23:02

For the flour...

"For each cup of all-purpose flour, add 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt"

I have made this a few times and it would easily cut into 16 pieces.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 06/10/2009 23:06

how big is yer roasting tin? approx? this looks lovely and i have a pal with apples.

QuintessentialShadowsOfDoom · 06/10/2009 23:06

Thanks! It looks yummy.

Do you know if it can be made with gluten free flour?

AitchTwoToTangOh · 06/10/2009 23:06
