Good Lord! Any nasties in it?

colditz · 01/10/2009 16:07

Worth buying if you make jam - as good jars cost a bomb!

TeamEdwardTango · 01/10/2009 16:08

The Sainsburys basics curry sauce is also pretty good, about 13p I think.

I have to say, when I've looked at the ingredients on Sainsbury's Basics products, they are usually very, very good and free of any nasties. So this doesn't surprise me.

Sainsbury's Basics curry sauce is obviously a premium one, as I think it cost me 9p.

MamaG · 01/10/2009 16:11

ooh get you BIWI with your fancy curry

OP posts:
Lio · 01/10/2009 16:12

lactic acid is something you get in yoghurt I think. Not a baddie as far as I know.

SausageRocket · 01/10/2009 16:13

isn't lactic acid what builds up in your muscles and gives you cramp ?

Not from food sources though.

BecauseImWorthIt · 01/10/2009 16:14

Lactic acid is used in the making of butters like Lurpak, also known as lactic butters (as opposed to sweetcream butters like Anchor - think silver foil versus creamy greaseproof). It gives a slightly sour note - a bit like adding lemon juice/tamarind juice.

Domestic science lesson now over. Have to get back to work!

BecauseImWorthIt · 03/10/2009 19:50

Well that killed that one!

meltedmarsbars · 04/10/2009 20:19

Lactic acid is what your body produces as a by-product of carbohydrate energy production.
In some metabolic diseases it can over-produce and be toxic.
But not in curry sauce or butter.
Its great what we don't know, ain't it!!

FABIsInTraining · 04/10/2009 20:26

What is fenugreek?

Ledodgy · 04/10/2009 20:29

It's a herb/spice it's good for milk production if you're breast feeding.

btmh · 04/10/2009 20:32

that in my slow cooker now with left over chicken and i agree it is yum

MamaG · 04/10/2009 22:05

is anybody going to rush outa nd buy a jar?

OP posts:
GoppingOtter · 04/10/2009 22:08

i would if there was an asda nearby - totally

lactic acid fine just milk

glucose · 04/10/2009 22:11

4p is great, but it would cost me a couple of quid to get to an Asda so will not rush, but keep an eye out if ever in region of an Asda, thanks for tip

PlumBumMum · 04/10/2009 22:16

Sainsburys basics is 4p and not bad, I would call it a spicy sweet curry, and also good to have in cupboard for emergencies curry

teamcullen · 04/10/2009 22:32

Tescos 4p curry is nicer than asda imo. I add apples, pears and sometimes pinapple to it to make a fruity chicken curry in the nursery where I work.

Goes down a treat every time.

BloodshotEyeballs · 04/10/2009 22:46

My favourite is korma. Will it suit me? Don't do hot, am a curry wimp!
