Pork loin steaks-what can I do with them?

Apart from a roast dinner type thing? Have had my fill of them recently!

Would they be any good chopped up and made into curry??

Any reason you have had so many pork loin steaks you're sick of them? It's not something I see as a regular purchase personally!

They would be better in a stir fry with rice or noodles. IMO. Slice small and thin, marinate in sherry, soy sauce and cornflour. prepare lots of different veg.Chop up some garlic and ginger fry in very hot oil, stir fry the meat, then remove and do the veg, put the meat back in and add some stock. Serve it with rice or noodles.

You can also do a similar dish with yellow beans, lime juice, fish sauce and chilli with broccoli and wide rice noodles.

Or a creamy sauce with wholegrain mustard, cream and fried bacon bits, served with gnocchi to dip in the sauce instead of the usual tatties or rice...
(it's a Nigella recipe)

Lol! I got them from the market when they were selling them off at the end of the day and stuffed them in the freezer!

Ooh 3 little frogs what a great idea, haven't had stir fry for ages and have most of those ingredients!

grill them and top with sauteed onion and mushroom ,mixed with a TBSP of cream. then put back under the grill topped with a brie type chesse . Serve with new potatoes and steamed greens.

Grilled with honey and garlic
or
Breadcrumbed and shallow fried with a sage cream gravy, fine beans and carrots.

Think I may have pork tonight.

alfiesmadmother · 22/09/2009 10:36

Oh my mouth is watering! So do you just fry the onion and mushroom in butter and then mix with cream? Would goats cheese be ok??

Stir fry is my usual "using up left overs" dish!

3littlefrogs · 22/09/2009 10:37

There are some lovely recipes here. I will save this thread!

Have you got any barbecue sauce? The table stuff, that comes in a bottle like ketchup?

Dollop some generously on both sides of the chops and add a good splash of Worcestershire sauce, and season with black pepper. Then bake slowly in the oven, covered in foil, at a lowish temperature, till they go all soft and sticky.

flossie64 · 22/09/2009 10:46

Yes fry in butter or olive oil. You just need a good melting cheese , so I'm sure goats cheese would be fine , the original recipe states Taleggio(sp?) , but I'm always one for tweaking a recipe to matxch my fridge contents.

Well I grilled them with goats cheese and sauted mushrooms and onion, and cream and garlic and served with rice and brocolli and broad beans (strange combo but what we had in!) DH said the pork was delicious and it makes a nice change I guess. Would have prefered a different cheese though as it was pretty strong.

Only one pack left to go so will have those next week, and not buy any more! I should have bought chicken breast, much more versatile!

Heres another recipe . Its called Tava, Cypriot ,so I'm told .
Serves 4-6
3-4 pork steaks cubed
1-2 onions roughly sliced
4-6 tomatoes cut into 8ths
pack salad potatoes cut into lge dice
salt and pepper, cumin, olive oil.
Oven 150 C
Put the 1st 4 ingredints in a large dish , season well and mix round .
Take a mug and half fill with oil ,top up with water and pour over .
Sprinkle liberally with the cumin and cook 3-4 hrs ,stirring occasionally.
lovely served with a greek salad and toasted pitta to mop up the juices.
It will brown and go a bit caramelised but that just adds to the flavour, but do check about every 30-40 mins as you don't want burnt bits.

I like to "bread" mine with a mix of smashed cornflakes, dried potato flakes, garlic powder and a crushed chicken oxo cube - then put them on a baking tray in the oven for about 25 mins on 220 C. For my daughter, I just chop one steak into cubes and bread it in the same mixture, but just pop it in the oven for the last 15 mins as it cooks quicker.

If you like tomatoes, the steaks are REALLY good just grilled, then topped with a few big spoonfuls of bolognese sauce and cheese, then grilled til it all melts.

My husband finds pork steak dry any recipes for keeping it moist.

...toss in eggs and then in a sage and onion stuffing (or other stuffing mix)... stick in a deep sided tray and bake in an oven... 180 degrees - for around 30 minutes or so...

Peel/slice and then drop in lemon juice several slices of apple - brush over with honey and shallow fry for a couple of minutes then place in the oven on top of the chops.....

sashh · 27/10/2013 08:25

I put them on a bed of thinly sliced potatoes covered in apple sauce and stuffing (made from a packet)
