What the heck can we do about it?

5 second piece about it on the radio news tonight and nothing anywhere else. I was very hungry on the way home and dd was crying as she was hungry. We ate eggs with tuna and cheese, yogurts and a friday night Oreo cookie.

What the hell would we do if we couldn;t feed our kids.

Sorry, not preachy or raving. Just so overwhlemed by it. 23 million? That's insane syrely

I agree with ABeta Dad. A lot of the aid sent doesn't even reach the people that need it.

I'm not blaming colonialism per se, it's just that it has to be a contributing factor in all the corruption.

Imagine how much the continent has developed in only slightly over 100 years. At the turn of the century there was practically nothing here in Kenya, barely a hint of civilisation and now it is an emerging economy.

That is a phenomenal rate of growth, a positive result of colonialism, it is hardly surprising then, given the rapid growth rate, that the result has been endemic corruption. To go from having nothing to then be placed, with the backing of various Western nations (Amin for example springs to mind, not to mention Mugabe), in a position of extreme power is a massive temptation.

I'm not condoning corruption of course, many governments are trying hard to root it out, but I think it is important to understand the history behind how it has arisen......
