Breadcrumbs - how do I make 'fresh' ones without a food processor?

by hand or with a grater.
the bread needs to be dry - dry it in a low oven if it's not already.

put it in the bread bag and bash it about. a lot. it's fun (dd liked helping)

you can either grate fresh bread, or you can put bread in the oven on a very low heat to dry it out. Once it is dry, and cool, put in an plastic bag, wrap in a teatowel and then bash it with a rolling pin or a someting else similar.

If you make lots then you can freeze it too.

It's a bit of a cheat, but I sometimes use cream crackers - put them in a plastic bag and bash them until they are crumbs. They make a really crispy coating if fried.

Pitta bread is easier to turn into crumbs than "normal" bread.
