Dried Puy lentils a year out of date - eat or chuck?

Found a packet in the cupboard. If we were boracic I'd cook em, but we're not quite, just needing to be careful. Would you eat them? Surely they don't degenerate much over time?

dried food doesn't go out of date, it just has a best before. I'd use them.

Sniff them, then again while they've started cooking. If they don't smell "stale" then they'll be fine.

Thank you, will decant into Kilner jar and chuck the dated label instead.
