What do you mean by bun?

Like a bread roll or a sweet thing with icing and a cherry on top?

MamaG · 06/08/2009 10:47

cupcake! (sorry, is bun a northern thing? )

Search for teacake recipes, and omit the raisins/dried fruit, then decorate with light pink icing and a glace cherry on each one.

ignore the bokeworthy cuteness of the site

Do you have a piping bag? That is the trick to a posh looking cupcake, piles of lavish icing and other decorations.

CMOTdibbler · 06/08/2009 10:53

The recipe of the week muffins are gorgeous, and you could top with a big swirl of pink cream cheese frosting and a raspberry

Overmydeadbody · 06/08/2009 10:55

like these?

MamaG · 06/08/2009 10:57

I don't have a piping bag, I think I need one

I actually really want one, and a fancy cake stand

Yes the key is in teh "heaps of frosting" isn't it. Any chance of a recipe for cream cheese frosting...?!

Thick Cream Cheese Frosting

4 ounces Philly cream cheese
75g butter, room temperature
2 cups sifted icing sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

  1. Beat butter vigorously with an electric mixer.
  2. Scrape the bowl and add the cream cheese and beat until combined.
  3. Add the sifted powdered sugar and vanilla and beat until smooth.

you can get cheap piping bags through amazon

in the meantime use a strong sandwich bag or similar, fill with the icing, snip off one corner, and squeeze icing out.

Overmydeadbody · 06/08/2009 11:06

sorry for mixing oz and grams in the cream cheese recipe.

Another one I made doesn't use butter, just cream cheese, cing sugar, lemon juice and whipped cream. It is denser though, like a cheesecake filling.

this woman has too much time on her hands

Overmydeadbody · 06/08/2009 11:07

(and so do I )

Overmydeadbody · 06/08/2009 11:12

MamaG this shows you how to decorate them without a piping bag

arolf · 06/08/2009 14:17

overmydeadbody - did you try these ones? because they are quite simply incredible.

the ones with fillings are cool too - I made some lemon cupcakse, hollowed them out, and put soem blackcurrant jam in before replacing the 'lid' and frosting them, and they were AWESOME too

and mamG I got a piping bag in wilkinsons, was only a couple of quid. woolworths used to do cheapo ones too (so sad it's gone!). alternatively, i used a cone of greaseproof paper with the tip cut off - it's messy, but not too bad.

slng · 06/08/2009 16:37

I made Blueberry and Ricotta Buns. Easy, and looks quite posh.

Overmydeadbody · 07/08/2009 10:58

arolf I haven't tried them, but OMG they look amazing!

I am making 60 chocolate cupcakes this afternoon and was going to make the melt-in-the-mouth chocolate ones, but now I am having second thoughts and want to make those ones!!!

Yum.
