completely useless thread, but

how many points is in a poached egg?

and can i ask more pointed questions of you all when i need it?

OP posts:
soothepoo · 08/05/2003 23:31

A large egg is 2 points, medium is 1.5. No points in egg white.

A quail's egg is 0.5 points.

Ghosty · 09/05/2003 02:18

I thought an egg was 1 point ... but then again it might be one point here in NZ ... I have found the points system is slightly different here ...

eidsvold · 09/05/2003 07:18

soo is right custardo....

SueW · 09/05/2003 07:46

Ghosty, if you have done WW in NZ or Australia, the points sytem is different to the UK, as I discovered to my horror halfway through my WW epxerience when, by moving halfway round the world back to the UK, the number of points in olive oil miraculously doubled in the handbook, even though I used the same brand in both places!

When I used the calculator to work it out, it came out close to 0.75 points so looks like was one rounds up and the other rounds down.

There were quite a few discrepancies between the two countries. And then every couple of years they adjust the system a little bit anyway and some points vaules change - according to the leader I had because foods change e.g. way animals are fed etc. I have to admit to raising my eyebrows at that one!

Ghosty · 09/05/2003 08:05

Yes SueW ... I did WW in the UK years and years ago before the points system ... then did the points system about 3 years ago in the UK ... then did it here a year ago and it IS different ... it is also different between NZ and Australia ... v. confusing.
We also have telly adverts with Sarah Ferguson here (v. naff) which they don't have in the UK ...

lilibet · 09/05/2003 08:08

how's it going custardo? Do you have a lot of little shiny sevens? The two times I went I never managed one! But I do think that its an excellent system if you don't get lured away by the evil Gods cheese and wine like I did!

Tortington · 09/05/2003 08:23

am not going to weightwatchers yet, have been before though am trying on mi own for a bit as its a lot of money to me at the mo. but the catch is havent got aweight wtchers point finderouter thingy!

thanks about the egg - hubby is doing it with me, and is gutted that an egg butty will now be 6 points! HA!

OP posts:
Crunchie · 09/05/2003 09:46

Actually a little off the subject, but following on from Suew, what strange things have your class leaders ever said that you think is absolute C*!

My consultant has a thing about fruit, on Slimming World it is free food but only raw. She keeps saying that if you juice an orange or puree a banana then there is more sugar Now the consistancy has changed, therefore you can eat more 'juiced' oranges or pureed bananas, but the actual sugar content or whatever HAS NOT CHANGED!

SueW · 09/05/2003 11:41

In Australia, corn eaten off the cob had no points but sweetcorn bought in any other form did have points! Maybe you use more calories munching it from the cob

Maybe with the juice thing, you don't get the same amount of fibre?

miggy · 09/05/2003 13:38

Crunchie- I think the fruit thing is to do with the glycaemic index. If you eat the whole fruit, the fructose will be more slowly absorbed because of the fibre. But if you juice it, all the stuff left in the juicer is the fibre, you are just drinking liquid fructose (I think it something like that anyway !). Same odd thing with carrots, cooked carrots have a much higher glycaemic index than raw carrots (ie best to eat raw )

eidsvold · 09/05/2003 18:33

custardo - a hint prehaps for hubby... weight watchers bread - some is only 1/2 pt a slice and I use flora light margarine - 1/2pt a teaspoon

Bacon - try turkey bacon.... I actually prefer that to normal bacon now... shame as in Aus you can get bacon with very little fat ... not here.

eidsvold · 09/05/2003 18:35

custardo - if joining is a problem then you can get the odd voucher - where you just pay the weekly meeting fee and no joining - often in the weekend paper...Just a thought

lilibet · 09/05/2003 19:14

Custardo, I have a spare one of those slidy things which lets you work out the points values in prepared foods. If you would like it, I could send it to you, but I don't know how to get your e mail address or you to get mine so that I can get your proper address! Does that make any sense?

jasper · 09/05/2003 21:51

Also Custy I have last season's booklet which lists the points value of lots of foods.(the points in this season's book are exactly the same) I can post it to you if you get tech to forward a message to me or however he arranges these things. In fact I think I have all of last season's booklets ; they might be a bit scribbled on but you are wellcome to them.

The slidy thing Lillibet is talking about is very handy.

Tortington · 09/05/2003 23:54

[email protected] to make arrangements

oh thank you - thank you thank you

OP posts:
lilibet · 10/05/2003 17:43

I'll post it on Monday Custy, thinking of joining you in a points counting fest. Need to shift soem weight and I couldn't afford the classes either.

Claireandrich · 10/05/2003 19:42

SueW - same over here in Uk about corn. Don't understand that really?

I've never actually been to WW but my MIL has been lots on the past. A couple of years ago I followed the diet using the points book and lost lots of weight and felt fab! Then I promptly fell pregnant and put it all back on again. Now DD is over a year old I MUST get started again.

Claireandrich · 10/05/2003 19:44

Worst think I find with WW diet is I an only have 18 points a day but Dh can have tons!!!

Tortington · 10/05/2003 23:11
