Peanut butter and banana sandwiches cannot go on for six whole weeks, can they?

What on earth can we eat? I am hopeless at lunches. I never know what to make for myself let alone the dds.

Please please no boiled bleedin eggs

baked pots with various fillings
wraps with cold fillings

TrinityRhino · 14/07/2009 10:23

Metella · 14/07/2009 10:25

Yesterday we had beans on toast and today will be soup with garlic bread. After that I have no idea!!!!!

TrinityRhino · 14/07/2009 10:26

well at least you have tow days sorted

I'm sounding organised but I have no clue
yesterday we had subway

Tortoise · 14/07/2009 10:29

Nuttella and banana sandwiches/toasties are nice too.
Mine like wraps. I put out a selection of bowls of chicken, cheese, lettace, cucumber, onion, ham etc in so that they can create their own mad wrap!

potentialJP · 14/07/2009 10:29

My little ones love wraps with houmous and grated carrot in - sounds very "lentil weaver" but try it!

misshardbroom · 14/07/2009 10:29

what Trinity said.

Also eggy bread
pizza (with lots of cut up veg to balance it out. Or pizzas made on muffins)
pasta & sauce
houmous, cut up veg, pitta bread or nan bread
pancakes with various fillings (bit of a faff but serves dual purpose of keeping the DCs occupied for a while)
fishfinger butties
sausage rolls (from Greggs )
soup on rainy days

meltedmarsbars · 14/07/2009 10:30

Thank your lucky stars - we have a 7 and a half week summer hol here.

OhBling · 14/07/2009 10:30

Agree with all the above suggestions
pasta salad
Sandwiches - but try getting a little creative by using different breads, buying ham/cheese/cold chicken etc? You can easily get away with those 3 or 4 times a week but they will seem different every day.

seeker · 14/07/2009 10:30

The same as they have in their packed lunches. Children don't like variety.

Carry on doing pack lunches, keep in the fridge, if you home they can have it the garden if you go out, just pop it in your bag.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 14/07/2009 10:46

i get fed up of sandwiches for lunch and find a nice alternative that the kids like too is crackers or oat cakes with cheese and/or ham on them.

I like a bit of chutney (made by my lovely neighbour) on top to tastey it up but the kids like it quite plain.

My ds likes it because it looks like those horrible dairylee lunchables thingys. At least i can make them a bit healthier using nice oatcakes, decent ham and cheese that hasn't been processed into a slice of plastic.

Quick easy and what we've just eaten!YUM!

TitsalinaBumsquash · 14/07/2009 13:02

I do a mini platter for my kids and let them nibble through the day between breakfast and dinner.

I do lots of things but only a tiny bit of them, for instance ds might have a plate that had,

1 small triangle of a ham sandwich
a few hula hoops
half a bannana
a handfull of grapes
a few cubes of cheese
a few carrott/cucumber sticks
a tiny box of raisins...

He seems happy with it, it gives them variety ad theyre not overwhelmed by huge servings of anything, plus things like bags of crisps, choclate bars and things like that can be shared between 2 or 3 to save using up load of stuff at once.

MrsMcCluskey · 14/07/2009 13:07

Mine like a selection
I do sliced up baguettes with a slection of ham and cheese, cucmber and carrot sticks hummus all laid out to help themselves

Do a picnic on the living romom floor, scotch eggs , saarnies, sausge rolls etc

JodieO · 14/07/2009 13:07

English muffins with cheese, marmite, butter etc
Crumpets with cheese, cream cheese, meats etc
Bagels with cheese, salad, marmite, cream cheese, meats etc can be toasted too
Scrambled egg, toast etc
Dippy eggs as my kids call them ie soft boiled or fried eggs with soldiers
Toast and marmite
Cheese and pickle sandwich (ds2 loves these)
Home made vegetable soup with bread
Crackers and cheese
Wraps
Pitta bread with various fillings
Picnic lunches are always nice too

We usually have cold lunches and hot dinners, except for the odd occasion.

TigerFeet · 14/07/2009 13:10

Thankfully dd is happy with a ham sandwich, apple, bit of cheese and a yogurt for her lunch. Every day. Without fail. Sometimes having such a creature of habit is a godsend.

Some of the suggestions here sound wonderful. She'd just turn her nose up though
