I purchased this book today, and I'd appreciate some suggestions on what I should cook/bake first.

I've made hokey pokey before, and the caramel croissant pudding, both of which were gorgeous, but I'd love to know which of the other recipes are worth making.

Thankyou in advance.

Now I REALLY want this! But it's still super expensive even on Amazon.

Thanks because even amazon sellers are wanting about £13!

Expat- have you tried ebay?

T'is a great book, everything I've done from it so far has been lovely.

Second the pancake mix- not rocket science but just sooooo handy for mid-afternoon snack for dd....

(some of the ingredients are a bit expensive though- but I don't think Nigella is into counting the coppers)

The mustardy sauce on the gnocchi is another fave here, and that flatbread thing with the cheese and spring onions....

expatinscotland · 26/06/2009 08:18

Yes, I have Bucha. No joy.

Fruitbeard · 26/06/2009 12:29

Perhaps get a library copy, and copy out the recommended/ones you like the look of recipes?

If you constantly renew it, it should give you enough time to go through it all....

expatinscotland · 26/06/2009 12:33

small, rural library. sorry, that's not an option. plus, the library's about 12 miles away, i don't have a car just now, and there's no bus.

Fruitbeard · 26/06/2009 12:37

That's a bugger.

hannahsaunt · 26/06/2009 12:50

Pea and pesto soup
Chocolate pear pudding
Pollo alla cacciatora
Rocky road things
Buttermilk chicken thing

Would second the pork/gnocci/mustard one and the chilli.

One of my best loved books.

blondissimo - might be that you didn't press it all firmly enough into the tin? I find you have to squodge it in quite firmly. Was oven hot enough? Mine are golden brown on top when done, sometimes leave them an extra 10 mins or so. They are pretty solid when cold, and may improve after a day or two.

blondissimo · 26/06/2009 13:27

Hmm, were not golden brown......
Yes I did it in a bit of a rush so didn't press in that firmly-also did with back of a spoon as did not have any vinyl gloves handy.
I think I will try again as bought a jumbo bag of oats.
Also anyone know the best place to get those disposable foil trays she is on about? As I also think I used wrong size baking tray and refuse to buy new ones as have a load on my wedding list!

Juwesm · 26/06/2009 14:11

I use a fork, with a sort of pressing-stroking motion

Not sure about the foil trays. I use a tray that is about 8" x 8" and the bars come out about 1" deep. Also, I find cutting it into 16 pieces really does not provide a big enough bar!

When making the Ragu - do you need to drain the fat from the lamb mince - I imagine it would be very fatty otherwise?

Will try the Rocky Road bars - look yum....

snickersnack · 28/06/2009 17:03

The blackened salmon is very good. Also the Thai curry, the pork with cider and mustard and the quick chilli. DH made the chicken pie once which was fantastic. It's all good.

expatinscotland · 28/06/2009 17:10

I really need to hide this thread.

It makes my mouth water every time I see it.

janeite · 28/06/2009 17:12

How about recs from other Nigella books whilst we're at it?

My favourite is chocolate guinness cake from Feast. I do the veggie chilli from Feast a lot too. And the baked plums and Barbados cream from How To Eat are yummy together.

janeite · 28/06/2009 18:24

Anybody?
