Chocolate fountain

Last time I used my chcocolate fountain the chocolate got too hot and went all lumpy after being in the fountain for about an hour.
Anyone got any recipe suggestions that might stop this from happening?
And what else could be dipped except stawberries and marshmallows?
Thanks. x

It sounds like you didnt mix enough oil with the chocolate, i usually use bananas, mini swiss rolls cut up, sainsbury do some little coconut bites from the bakery section i chop those in half.

As buktus says you need to get the mix perfect or buy the vvv expensive stuff from Thortons (t'is yummy though)

How much oil/chocolate should be used? I can't remember if I used any oil last time.
Does it need to be a certain type of oil?

If your not using the chocolate that is specifically for the fountains it will go lumpy, not sure of the ratio, as I borrowed a fountain and bought the thortons choc

is it special chocolate from thorntons? I cannot find it on their website.
Can you get specialised chocolate anywhere else?

Its a 900g bag of chocolate pellets that is for chocolate pellets, don't know if you can get it any where else

PlumBumMum · 17/06/2009 13:17

My friend had a chocolate themed Wedding, the dessert and center piece was the hugest Fountain i have ever seen with White Chocolate one side and Milk Cgocolate the other then there was a smaller one attached with Dark Chocolate in, each table had a vase of skewere and a huge selection of things to thread on them for the Fountain.

We had

Fudge
Strawberries
Marshmellows (Flumps and Normal)
Flapjacks
Bannana
Rasperries
Mini Doughnuts
Grapes
Cookie Dough

It was amazing.

Although i think i must have put on about 100 stone through that wedding!

We always use the chocolate from Thorntons - they are like chocolate drops.

We have fresh pineapple, strawberries, mini donuts, fingers of shortbread, fudge.

The stuff from Thorntons is worth the money as we have reused our leftovers a couple of times just adding some more chocolate drops when heating.

Thanks everyone, it all sounds wonderful - and no good for my diet!!!
Will one bag of the choc drops be enough for a fountain?

i used 900g cadburys and mix with veg oil until smooth enough to run through the fountain, has to be veg oil so you cant taste it

SOLOisMeredithGrey · 17/06/2009 13:57

Honeycombe

PlumBumMum · 17/06/2009 14:02

One bag is enough and like bellavita says we have melted ours again and it has been fine

Trinaj · 17/06/2009 14:05

excuse me sounding "stoopid" how do you melt yours again after it's gone hard in the fountain?
Thanks x

bellavita · 17/06/2009 14:07

Well, that's the key Tinaj, you don't let it go hard. You drain it off before cleaning.

Trinaj · 17/06/2009 14:15

could the left over choc be frozen?

OP posts:
PlumBumMum · 17/06/2009 14:15

Yeap def drain it off before letting the fountain cool down, it will never melt in the fountain

bellavita · 17/06/2009 14:43

I don't know about it being frozen. We keep ours in one of those plastic klip it boxes in the cupboard which can go into the microwave.

Trinaj · 18/06/2009 19:30

How long would it keep for? or could any left overs be used in cooking?

OP posts:
PlumBumMum · 18/06/2009 19:36

We've had ours in the fridge from the 10th of May, melted it again last week to dip some mallows in it was fine, its back in the fridge I'm going to bake something at the weekend and try and use it up.
