Child friendly posh restaurants in London - can anyone recommend?

DH is a bit of a foodie and we're going to London next weekend and I thought I'd try and book a table somewhere nice. Trouble is we have pesky children (aged 3 & 4, who are generally restaurant friendly but there are occasional off days). Where can we go for nice food and not have to worry that the children will annoy others.

Any of the hawksmoors! Waiters often seen to be strolling round the restaurant with a toddler on their hip. Plus their food, whilst delicious, is fairly unchallenging: kiddies will normally be happy with a bit of steak, a fried egg, chips, macaroni cheese etc.

We've taken our kids to
La Gavroche - they did steak & chips for kids if needed but it was pretty formal - dcs were very amused by the over service.
Locanda Locatelli - they adored have kids in there, the staff were completely amazing...
The Ledbury - very relaxed, exceptional food - no dress code, kids were welcome but we didn't take ours!

Locanda Locatelli - they adored &having kids in there. I should add if you or your kids have allergies they are very obliging.

I had a terrible time with rude staff at Locatelli. I would never go there again if it is the same place you mentioned.

Hellokitty - it Wigmore st I think - behind Selfridges. What happened?

If you are foodies head to the markets instead, especially if the weather is looking good. Grab something to eat at Borough Market and sit on the wall or the grass in the grounds of Southwark Cathedral next door.

Fountain Cafe at Fortnum & Mason? Looks posh but lots of afternoon tea options.

OK, no it wasn't. I have a disability and they were mocking me. I would never ever go there again I have an American accent and it was in a touristy area so they probably thought I wasn't local and wouldn't complain. Sad to say, but people can be very cruel.

Hellokitty that is awful! I'm glad it wasn't the staff at Locanda Locatelli who were really brilliant - so much so that the kids kept asking to go back!

I review London restaurants from a parents perspective on my blog www.mamaneedsamimosa.com - all the reviews include if there's space for buggies, highchairs, if it felt ok breastfeeding there, if there are any toys/activities for kids. I focus on great world cuisine and restaurants that have made the top 100 in the country some posher than others but always great food. If you're looking for places to eat out with your baby then please check it out.

Maroush in Beauchamp Place

Go to Benihana! They cook the food right in front of you and there is always some theatre involved - it's great for kids and the food is lovely

If he's a proper foodie then he'd probably really enjoy (perhaps even more than a 'posh' restaurant) going to one of the millions of incredible low key not posh restaurants that London has. In which case no problem Like Hoppers or Padella or Trullo, Kiln,Morito i could go on! Or
Something slightly posher like clove club, Story, pidgin or Palomar. I've eaten at all these places with DC apart from clove club but there were children there when I went and it seemed fine.

MamaMimosa · 04/08/2017 19:36

How did you manage to fit a buggy into Hoppers or Palomar?! I'm seriously impressed- I had a look on Palomars website and it said they could only take a buggy if folded so I booked it for a date night instead!
