I have Annabel Karmel's Baby and Toddler Mealplanner, which I have used a lot and after reading a thread on Mumsnet, I ordered a copy of the Carol Timperley Baby and Child Vegetarian Recipe book which looks great. Any other good books you can recommend?

I liked the Planet Organic cook book by Lizzie Vann, the Baby Organix woman.

Have just got a book out the library called - Great Grub for Toddlers by Cas Clarke which is great for ideas.

Stupid as this sounds I was given Lorraine Kelly's baby cookbook for Christmas and use that more than Annabel Karmel. The recipes are pretty much the same but Lorraine's seem easier for some reason.

Iv'e got a great book by a chef Mark Hix called 'Eat Up'. Some quite sophisticated recipies which have always gone down well with my DS and good for DH and I too. Not too long-winded to prepare. There is however one recipe for making crispy pigs tails which sounds and looks disgusting but then I am veggie so I suppose it would!!

I should add that many of the recipies are suitable from weaing onwards with advice given for what age each one is appropriate and what to add/omit.

Wonderful, will buy ALL books suggested!!!
Oh forgot I live on my overdraft, perhaps not, one a month maybe!!

Meanmum · 01/05/2003 10:20

Thomcat. Head to your local library as they have loads of them and can even get them in from the other libraries in the same borough. This will save you money and you can write out the ones you like as opposed to buying a whole book and only using one or two.

ThomCat · 01/05/2003 13:35

Now why didn't I think of that MeanMum?! Probably becasue I'm addicted to spending money!
I'm going to check out a preschool for Lottie tomorrow so will go straight to the library, and will feel very grown up!!!
Thanks for saving me the money, xx

No problem. I make it into a special trip for ds which I'm hoping will mean he will have the same passion for books I do.

ThomCat · 01/05/2003 14:17

Oh please God, I'd hate it if Lottie turns out to not love books.
I've just been given 5 wonderful books for her actually. One's all about fairies, I'm going to try and convince her when she's old enough that fairies DO exist.
Quite looking forward to going to the library now! I joined 5 years ago and have forgotten to go back!

Saves me loads of money, mind you I still buy books too. Don't tell dh.

You know you can join your child up. In Westminster, the council we are in, your child gets a free book, book bag and cheap rates on videos, dvd's etc. They're also more lenient when your child forgets to return their books and videos in time. Therefore, I put most stuff on his card as I'm always forgetting. Isn't that terrible. Another reason I am a meanmum.

ThomCat · 01/05/2003 16:46

Thanks for that, she's 16months old so don't know if they would consider her too young to be a memnber in her own right, but I'll ask, I'm up for a free book, or free anything, who isn't?!
Do you think we might get told off for discussing books under the heading food!!??!! There appears to be a thread etiquette that I'm not aware of!!!

Meanmum · 01/05/2003 20:15

My ds was only a few months old when I joined him up. I know Westminster are very keen on having children join the library and use the facilities they provide and can't believe other councils woulnd't have the same view. I'm sure there is no issue with your child joining and when we go we take his book bag and fill it up with the books he has chosen. You should see some of the ones he chooses? At 15 months he's not very discerning. As I said earlier I want him to get pleasure from books and appreciate libraries and he loves the little excursion we go on as he feels it is for him and it's his special outing.
