Angel Delight thread. Common or classic? Brilliant or boak?

I had it this evening for the first time in, oh 150 years. (Had bought it thinking it might be good for camping, but forgot to take it)

We tried:
strawberry - meh
butterscotch - mmmmmm just as delicious as I remembered!

We never had it in our house when I was little (we were too intellectual for it you see) so I associate it with the weird ways of friends' houses. So - do people still actually eat it and on a scale of froot shoot to home-woven lentil, just how bad is it?

I love angel delight, it was always a childhood treat.

differentID · 03/06/2009 22:27

I still eat it as I don't have dc yet. Oh, it's lovely and creamy and delicious and cold.

mmmmmmmmm

Darn, I want Angel Delight now! grrr.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/06/2009 22:29

mmmmm - putting it on shopping list (dh will think I've lost the plot!)

liath · 03/06/2009 22:29

I loved butterscotch instant whip as a kid.

I found sainsury's did a version the other day and bought it in glee, told dd that it was my favourite pudding when I was her age etc.

She didn't even like it . Silly child. DH and I polished it off instead.

muffle · 03/06/2009 22:29

So - am I right that butterscotch is the best?

OP posts:
trixymalixy · 03/06/2009 22:30

Oh yes butterscotch is definitely the best.

muffle · 03/06/2009 22:30

Ah x-posted liath!

Ah, fab stuff. Banana and butterscotch every time. My mum used to make it in these little bowls and put chocolate chips in a smiley face on the top That's dd's pudding sorted for tomorrow

Hulababy · 03/06/2009 22:32

We have recently rediscovered Angel Delight after many many years. DD had never had it and asked what it was, so we bought some - Butterscotch obviously. It was yummy and rather moreish too! DD loved it

whooosh · 03/06/2009 22:32

Was a special treat as a child and butterscotch was definitely a fave.Have never exposed DD (4yrs) to it-maybe I should.....

muffle · 03/06/2009 22:33

Yes DS was a bit less mindblown by it than I hoped. (Ate it all though)

OP posts:
differentID · 03/06/2009 22:33

butterscotch first,
then chocolate- as long as you whisk it fast and hard enough to make sure it's ALL whisked in
Strawberry

any other flavours are poncy own-brand fakes and are gross

hf128219 · 03/06/2009 22:35

Smash
Then Angel Delight

muffle · 03/06/2009 22:35

I didn't even know there was chocolate! Didn't see that when I bought mine.

TrillianAstra · 03/06/2009 22:36

Mmmm, it's lovely.

More of a Greggs sausage roll than a fruitshoot: naughty but yummy.

muffle · 03/06/2009 22:36

What is that a nostalgic meal hf?

OP posts:
littlelamb · 03/06/2009 22:37

Oh no now smash is a different matter entirely. Instant mashed potato? WHy??? I admit to feeling a bit superoir when watching Bodger and Badger (remember them eh? My best friend was recently at a wedding where Bodger also attended, but I digress) that we had real mash in our house

Thunderduck · 03/06/2009 22:37

Banana is my favourite.

muffle · 03/06/2009 22:42

I've never liked smash at all, but Sainsbury's own brand instant mash is quite nice. I used to have that a lot as a student.

OP posts:
differentID · 03/06/2009 22:43

eww, banana is just foul Thunderduck!

southeastastra · 03/06/2009 22:45

aw nice. we used to make angel delight and share it into six every sunday night. then add a tinned peach slice for garnish.

dietstartstomorrow · 03/06/2009 22:45

I had it loads as a kid. Was the only thing my mum ever mixed in her food processor!

We thought we were well posh if it had tinned friut underneath

Think it's yuk now.

southeastastra · 03/06/2009 22:46

my mum and dad grew up during the war though, so this to them (and us) was space food in the 70s like orange appeal

HecatesTwopenceworth · 03/06/2009 22:46

I love it! Although recently I did give it to my kids who declared it "Yucky" and asked me for a "proper pudding"

Joe90 · 03/06/2009 22:47

I love butterscotch, brilliant for camping, for using up milk if we have 'too much' (that's my excuse)and with brandy and raisins. My kids have it as a treat and love it too, amused by my telling them how we were all expecting to live off food like that and to be flying around with jet packs on our backs by now!
