Full fat or semi-skimmed

My little boy is now 2 and my husband recently read somewhere that he should now be having semi-skimmed milk and not full fat. Anyone know if this is right?

Full-fat to age of 5 I think...although he can have semi if that's what you want to do.

full fat is recommended until at least age 5

(it is still a low fat product with only 4% fat)... at this age children need the fat to grow healthily.

if the child is doing well weight wise (ie not thin or on the lower end of normal weight) and eating well then semi skimmed milk can be given, but i think its thw full fat that is recommended

Semi skimmed is fine from 2 onwards according to the FSA.

I don't see the problem with giving them semi skimmed milk even if they are younger, so long as they are getting plenty of fat from other sources.

Thunderduck · 01/06/2009 09:51

Various other sources say that semi skimmed from 2 is fine.

ther has been another thread about this but they tend to say you should give semi from 2; they're a bit obsessed with obesity, they used to say 5

Milk is only 4% fat (full-fat) and 2% fat in semi-skimmed. Wouldn't have thought it was crucial to change

no i agree, but thats what they say!
